I immediately thought of the Ghostbusters' all-female cast reboot situation. There's a trend now, and I'm wondering what's next. Is this a feminist thing? I mean, they could have created a new character and a show similar to MacGyver in many ways without having to reboot and rewrite "history" so to speak.
Instead they choose to reboot which is disturbing to me.

to create a new show, inspired by MacGyver, but with one significant stipulation: the main character must be a woman.
There it says: INSPIRED BY. Doesn't that mean they'll make something similar and not reboot MacGyver? I'm confused about what their actual intentions are now.

They are looking to create a show similar to McGuyver starring a woman. Her character won't be called MacGyver nor will the show be named like that.

Not at all. As long as the submission criteria are met, a diverse assembly of ideas are welcome and expected. This can be drama, action, sci-fi, comedy, etc. MacGyver is merely an initial point of reference, as it was a hit show that excited young kids to engineering. |

My bet is still on a cheap copy that is Macgyver... seen enough of the creativity that comes out of Hollywood/TV Studios lately. 
If they truly wanted an engineering themed thing in any way, then they could have easily gone without the (excessive) spotlight on Macgyver. Half the suggestions will be like that show since they steered it that way.

the only problem i have with this, is that it has the stench of purposefully trying to be different 'just because'.
you tell me youre making a show about a woman who is an engineer, then im totally cool with it.

if you want to do macgyver, DO MACGYVER, dont just try and change the character up for the sake of it...
