Set against a backdrop of power, love, betrayal and war, Versailles examines a defining period of French history. The year is 1667 and King Louis XIV is a 28-year-old monarch on the cusp of greatness. A ruthless leader, he will stop at nothing to achieve his vision of creating the most beautiful palace in Europe and seizing absolute control of France and his enemies. The cast is an international roster with George Blagden (Les Misérables, Vikings) playing the Sun King.
Season one follows the first years in power of the Louis XIV at age 28, when he made the strategic decision to move his court to Versailles in order to gain more power. Season two finds the King four years later. Now an emancipated sovereign with a wily understanding of the workings of power.
The 30 million Euros “Versailles” is already garnering strong word-of-mouth and is being promoted as one of Canal Plus’ most ambitious series as well as France’s biggest-budgeted show.
Those eps are French, I'd assume? Since they were talking about English ones early next year, but who knows in our modern Netflix-and-other-instant-release times

They are in English. It is said that you can select Eng or French on Canal+.
The first episode was OK,although it had too many characters without proper introduction so I got a bit lost in what was happening and why and who is who, acting ranged from mediocre to good. But by the end (which was unexpectedly hilarious lol) I got interested. The second one was much better than the first one and it got me somewhat hooked I'll continue watching and see how it goes.
Atm I would give it ~7+.
Oh, and, so many beautiful women, men! It's good to be a king!
Anyways, I've finished it today. The first episodes were OKEish but with every new episode it got better and better although I wish the story was more complex. I really liked the relationship between the king, his brother and Henrietta. The rest of characters are not that interesting with rare exception imho.
