Yes, chess requires intelligence, tactics, and a deeper understanding.

Tic-tac-toe is a child's game.

Got bored of World of Warcraft before my free month was over. Is guild wars any better?

I think my main problem with MMORPG's is that you don't feel unique. If you choose to be an undead priest, you can guarantee that there are a thousand other's exactly the same running around. Thats why I like single player RPG's so much.

What he said, except that I like playing with other people because it makes me feel like I accomplish things. Which is why I play either EVE Online or Star Wars Galaxies. Every player is kind of different, since there is no such things as "classes" especially in EVE online. In Star Wars Galaxies few players are exactly the same due to you get 250 skillpoints to spend, but every player spends em differently.

That said, I'm definetly going to get guildwars. Been a long time till I had good fun with an online hack and slash.

Simple question, so ill give a simple answer..YES! is is WAY better, and NO most people are different when it come to their character.

Fist off you choose 2 classes (if you want, you can choose pure class if you want aswell) and you mix up the class skills to create your own breed of pwnage.

Like me, I personally like what is commanly known as the "Shock Sniper" I am a ranger/elementalist, I use my elementalist skills to conjure lightning damage to my arrows.

of course this is just an example, there are thousands of possibilities!

Also, I would like to note that there is a beta week-end event tonight. For those of you who pre-ordered im sure you know this but you can play for the weekend..it is the last BWE before release!

And those of you who want to buy the game and play tonight but cant find it anywhere..you can buy a cd key from www.gamersloor.net (do NOT worry about cd's guild wars uses streaming technology..this means the game downloads to you while you play)

You'd probably like Guild Wars then, you can mix classes pretty much how you want.

I got bored after 3 day of the beta week... WoW clearly suck and is only popular because it's Blizzard (well "new" blizzard who mean crap)

I like mmorpg, just not the style all the new ones come out with.. prefered the old UO style. Everquest2 is nicely done though.

As for Guild War, it look great. I though because of no monthly fee a clone would be released on internet and I would try it and all, but if you download the game by internet like steam and the cd-key is the thing important I don't know if it worth my money since I rarely spend too much time on only one game..

Well I sure wants to try Guild Wars, but I am not gonna pre-order it only to get a beta key.
I want to try before buy. Thats the best way, if only mmorpg developers could put out free betas too.

I am pretty sure this games pwns WoW's ass since WoW sucks big time. I can't believe I bought that one. And according to blizzard you are not allowed to sell the game with the account and stuff. So how do they suppose people are going to sell the game when the key can be used only once...

Top reasons making WoW suck:
repetive (always the same thing, bash that, bash something bigger of that, run back and get XP + ugly thing/money do it all over again until you are lvl60)
no fun when doing solo
the price (first £30+ for the box and then £12 a month, come on!!!)
things will get nerfed over and over again, thats for sure.
honor system will be out when nobody plays it anymore
battlegrounds will be out in the next century
did I say repetive?

Reasons Guild Wars is better then WoW:
more PvP (almost only PvP)
looking waaay better than wow
no monthly fee!

Behold his GLORY! Bow for the technical master!

The game really sux IMHO. Too bad graphics, bad gameplay, and besides that, they didnt thought on controls. The controls are really really bad, the camera doesnt even move if you move the mouse to the edge of the screen.

I don't know if Ill play this, I may try it as its probably the best thing to do Smile! I love WOW because it was easy to get into a fun to play, im still enjoying it and I can't say I've seen many people my class the same as me, but thats because im good at the game and dont follow the "norm" (most people use the "popular" amour sets, which in many cases suck Razz).. Can anyone say how easy this is to get into?

I played FF 11 for a good week and didnt manage to make enough money to buy a new skill or a new weapon, I didnt even get harder, it was very annoying Razz!!

GW is nice, but it's a half baked MMO. WoW beats it by a mile if you ask me. I have been playing WoW since september 2004, EU closed beta, and i am still loving this game.

Blizzard never let me down, it has always made great games and WoW is another one of their masterpieces.

I'm thinking about buying this one, but before i do so i have some questions to the peeps who played the beta:

1. How easy/hard is it to get into a guild, i mean are all guildes closed circles or are some open for new menmbers? All of my irc buddies do play WoW and not this one (if they play at all Wink). How important is it to join one?

2. Their homepage states that you don't have to pay to play online, however they will release add-ons, but these are not mandatory to keep your character competitive. Is that tue, and how big is the initial world. Yondaime, you said you played "through" the betas, can you actually finish the game or is it open end?

3. The gfx do look nice, does it run smooth on their recommended system specs?

About 2 classes and mixing to create unique, etc.
Regardless if you have a million classes witht he ability to mix up to 10,000 of them together, there is always going ot be some little power gamer who's going to run the numbers and find the most damage per second and determine what the best combination is.
If you want to have any success in the game since its pretty much all PVP , you're going to have to do the same damn thing.
This is why MMORPGs suck.
They focus too much on the numbers and not on the world and the game.

I would have to disagree with crossmr on that one. You can easily tell he has never played the game... Yes, this game is mostly focused on competitive PvP. However,
Quote:
there is always going to be some little power gamer who's going to ... determine what the best combination is.
is incorrect. ArenaNet's whole philosophy behind the game is to make sure that there IS NO BEST COMINATION.
Jeff Strain (lead developer) has stated that they put a lot of time and effort into balancing the skillsets so that no one combination is unbeatable. So in other words - there is always a way to counter somebody's strategy. It's hard to say whether or not that is true, and we shall only find out after the game is released. But from what I can tell (from testing the game in alpha for a year now) this is most likely very true.

Oh! Here is a quote from the man himself!! :
Jeff Strain wrote:
If we do our jobs, there will be no "killer" strategy; every winning strategy that players discover should have a counterstrategy that emerges just as quickly.

WoW is a bunch of repetitive level grinding garbage.
"Go kill this monster or bring me this item to receive a reward" = quest?
kill monster, grind, grind, constantly looking for that next 'uber item' or l00t Sad
"Oh i'm lvl blah blah blah with a level 34 blah blibber blabber and this is really fun."
yup I sure love WoW...

Guild Wars on the other hand, now thats a game worth playing! Doesn't matter how many pathetic hours you have put into your character, and you can still have fun questing or challenging guilds, or competing in the tournaments or random PvP matches, or playing tombs (king of the hill, capture the flag, domination etc) etc etc etc.
So to sumarize: GW > WoW
