Ive never had a playstation and I can see PS2´s are the price of 2 pizzas used here - and seeing how I just got an Amiga again, I thought it was time for some ps2 action also.

I can understand its a good idea to go for newer playstions 2, with some model prefix attached - what should I go for there?

I only want to use the playstation for coop and multiplayer (not online tho) - which games are the best in that catagori? (games not on the PC would be preferred).

Any other advices are very welcomed!

I wouldn't consider coop to be a strong point for the PS2. But these are considered some of the best.

Champions of Norrath
Dynasty Warriors
Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance
Gauntlet Legends Dark Legacy
Contra Shattered Soldier
Timesplitter series

There's also lightgun games like Time Crisis but you'd need multiple guns (and the guns made for them don't work on newer TVs) And Twisted Metal for multiplayer fun.

Splinter Cell Double Agent has a splitscreen coop campaign.

Depends on what you like.

Maybe fighers? Tekken has been mentioned, maybe Mortal Combat.

Timesplitters (also mentioned) is a lot of fun, supports up to four players.

I am trying to think of any good racing games, but the only one I liked was Burnout3 and that does not have split screen IIRC.

not Coop but local multiplayer, I remember having a lot of fun with :

Timesplitters 2
Red Faction 1
Summer Heat Beach Volleyball (yeah I mean it !)
WWE games sometimes
Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance
PES/Winning Eleven
Half Life
Smuggler's Run
any NHL game.

Maybe I'm nostalgic cuz most of these games today are really meh after thinking but hey, I know with my friends we had a lot of fun at school Razz

fantastic soundtrack indeed, I guess I'm not the only one that loved this game after all Very Happy

I'm still replaying it from time to time on my PS3, works quite well using the built in software PS2 emulator, but sometimes the frame rate can be a little bit choppy.
