Batwoman is truly making herself at home in the Arrowverse.
Previously announced as the special guest for this fall’s four-way crossover event, Batwoman is now being developed as a series for The CW by Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions, TVLine has learned.
Slated for a potential 2019 premiere, Batwoman would follow the adventures of Kate Kane — the second incarnation of the Batwoman character in DC Comics lore, introduced in 2006 — who is described as “an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter.”
Batwoman‘s official logline is as follows:
Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.

Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries) will write the project, executive-producing alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Geoff Johns.
Batwoman’s introduction into the Arrowverse was first announced at The CW Upfront in May, where Stephen Amell revealed that she would be fighting alongside characters from Arrow, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl in the network’s next major crossover. (And here’s a fun, though potentially unrelated, fact: In the comics, one of Kate’s main love interests is Maggie Sawyer, formerly portrayed on Supergirl by Floriana Lima.)
I usually don't mind if the political agenda isn't pushed in your face. Unfortunately this one seem to belong to the wrong category. I guess the producers are thinking "The young viewers are impressionable, let's go for it".
Okay so you all are jumping the gun here. As much as I hate checkboxing for the sake of it, Kate Kate has ALWAYS been a lesbian in the comics from her debut as Bruce Wayne's (Batman) cousin. They aren't doing anything different or changing things for the TV show to pander to anyone.
As for the social justice thing, I think they are going to make her a lawyer or something because she doesn't seem to have a job in the comics aside from being a Military Brat Feels like they are ripping elements from Manhunter aka Kate Spencer, another DC female vigilante character.

I don't know... on one hand like you say it seems to be signalling for attention but on the other I feel it might attract some people who would otherwise not watch these shows. But then such a crowd invariably includes people who don't care about the show and yet will complain on the internet about how something on said show triggered them.
The focus of the tagline is to show progressiveness.
Fact that she's a lesbian or a social justice advocate is irrelevant.
It can be displayed in the show. Easily. She has a lover. Who is a woman. Done. She sees injustice, she deals with it. Simple.
That it is in the tagline is trying to get the progressives to watch the show. Fans and people aware of the character know shes a lesbian. Progressives who only care about virtue signaling have no clue. So they read the tagline, pump their fists in the air, and in the end dont watch the show.
Legends did the lesbian thing right. It's not the focus of the show.
This here feels and reads like the focus of the show.
If it's good itll get ratings.
If it sucks well people dont like LGBT on tv and they're all homophobes.
Heck black lightning was decent at first and it juggled social justice evenly. But I haven't caught up after his daughter developed powers.
It will be the exact same as all the other Berlanti shows.

Seeing that Archer tattoo had me look her up to see if it was maybe an inside joke thing on that show but I see those are all her real tattoos. I guess they will be doing a lot of body make up on her or she will end up wearing a lot of long sleeve shirts as Kate Kane.
