I have my Exam coming up tomorrow and there was one question on my mock exam that I couldn't for the life of me figure out;

I remember the question very well, it simply said:

"Sovle: 3x <= 29" but it wasn't an "=" sign it was just a underscore under the "<" sign.

I had no idea how to solve this, I'm hoping for some answers here.

Thank you so much in advance.

Maybe this post is enough for you?

In this example, there is no difference to solving "3x = 29" for x, except you keep the inequality "<=".

I think you only need to flip the sign, if you multiply or divide by a negative factor. Otherwise it behaves just like the equations you are familiar with.

In case you want to solve "-3x <= 30" for x, you would divide by -3 and get "x >= -10"

These equations tell you that the solution is not just a single number, but rather a range of numbers starting at some point going in one direction.

Or you may want to read this page: http://www.mathsisfun.com/algebra/inequality-solving.html
Or just google for "solving inequalities"

I had a good read of that site and referred to YouTube videos to get a better understanding of the question overall; once I managed to establish what it was asking, the rest seemed quite simple.

Thank you for your help.

Also the question is stated clear enough such that you can put it into wolfram alpha for a drawing of the solution.

I ask questions to ensure I'm doing things right or at least get the help to better my abilities.

Unless you would like me to ask about arbitrary nonsense?

I would like you to ask how to upgrade your humour machine since it's apparently missing.

And this is the useless void... so technically you can "ask about arbitrary nonsense" Very Happy Laughing

Oh found the gloves thread Very Happy
