Cool. Last time I tried to play it on Dolphin Emu it ran like shit. Played it originally on a GC back in the day.

I wonder if that means we'll get a port of Tales of Vesperia as well?

ToS runs absolutely fine for me on Dolphin, no* sound issues either Smile

*in gameplay. The <1s audio stutter in the opening FMV is still there but come on.. one time, in one FMV, for less than one second. I can live with that Very Happy

Is it only the graphics that is superior on the GC version? As far as i found out, the PS2 port got bugfixes and other stuff which isn't present on the GC version. And which one is the PS3 version based on?

I'm not really sure why people prefer the GC version over the PS2, the PS2 brought tons of bug fixes and new content to the game. It doesn't seem like the same Grandia 2 DC vs PS2 situation, where the PS2 version looked and ran poorly, the PS2 version of Symphonia really does look like the best one - and it was used as the basis for the PS3 re-release too.

Gfx where a bit downgraded (but at least they got rid of the terrible blur effect that plagues the GC version) it only runs on 30 fps instead of 60, and for me the most problematic change was they removed the character outlines/cell shade effect.

Well I hated that blur effect too and luckily there's a projection hack to remove it on GC, though there is one GC element I really don't like and I don't know if it's part of the "game" or a Dolphin rendering issue, and that's a sort of transparent outline around all the characters. It's highly distracting.

I didn't know they crippled the framerate though Facepalm I hope THAT's not part of the PC version. Do you know if the PS3 one is 30fps also?

Not really liking the art style and playing as little teens with big heads.
It probably won't be as fun as ToZ was for me. But we will see!

As expected, framerate is capped to 30. It's also locked at 720p internal resolution. Laughing

So. Tales of came out on PC. Everyone was looking forward to a nice version.

This is what we got.

    1. The games resolution is locked internal at 720p, no matter what resolution you choose. Look at that:

    Thanks to CertifiedFP.

2.The different languages are broken, since they used a wrong font and some words dont even show up. And some things havent even been translated into other languages:

3.These things are just saved in a simple txt file:

4.The game is locked at 30fps, but some people can run it at 40 fps:

    5.It has new typos:

    6.It still partially uses Ps3-Button-controls:

    7. Random crashes for some people. The Overlay could lead to that.

    8. Only 6 save slots.

    9. Opening the config and save menu can take 30 seconds to load.

10.It uses a DRM thats called VMProtect, that creates a new *.exe everytime the game starts.

    11. And something to chuckle about. Apparently the one who is in charge of the discussionforums for this port was called "Lazy Mofo" on Steam. After being called out, he changed his Steam name.

Besides the screen resolution being locked to 1280x720 and the FPS capped to 30 it seems to run OK, has both keyboard and gamepad control prompts too and the translation seems fine so far at least for English, though I switched to JP voiceovers as the English ones weren't all that great.
(Unfortunately it won't save the VO choice in the settings menu so it has to be reset every time the game is started.)

Tested using the ALI213 crack but the game crashes every time you try to open the settings screen (Called Customize in this game.) so unfortunately it goes through that VMProtect thing which means it creates a randomly named sec*.tmp file in the temp folder.
(Thus greatly complicating compatibility with other injectors such as GeDoSaTo or ReShade.)

Could have been handled better but apparently the original game is from the gamecube many years back and from there it's been ported to the PS3 (Apparently also not the best of ports either.) and now PC.

Still hopefully they'll at least patch the locked internal screen resolution and maybe the FPS cap. Smile
(Unsure if Durante would create a plugin for GeDoSaTo if you have to crack the game for it to work in the first place.)

Just play the game in Dolphin there is even a Undub if you like that honestly i see no point playing a craptastic port like this over the superior Gamecube version.
The tiny bit of extra content is really not worth it.
You can even play the sequel which isn't the best Tales game ever but i had some fun with it
Both Games run perfectly in 1080p+ with 60 fps and some shaders.

Btw It's pretty funny seeing the same ppl beeing upset about VMprotect as a DRM choice while it's basically the same thing as Denuvo (uses VMprotect 3 as it's base) which they praised just a moment ago in the Tomb Raider thread^^
