Quote:
The creators of Gothic turn over a new leaf together with Nordic Games and tackle their first new, collaborative project: ELEX

Nordic Games teams up with veteran studio Piranha Bytes to work on their first collaborative and new project: ELEX. This eclectic, lavish, exhilarating, xenial open-world RPG is scheduled to release in Winter 2016/2017 on PC and current gen console platforms. This is by far the most ambitious project for Piranha Bytes and Nordic Games to date.

“To say we are excited to see this new project unfold in the hands of Piranha Bytes is an understatement. ELEX is going to be edgy, dark, uncompromising, complex, and we love it already,“ comments Reinhard Pollice Business & Product Development Director at Nordic Games. “We will be premiering a vertical slice build at Gamescom 2015, more info will be released in due time.”

“Apart from being enthusiastic about the cooperation with Nordic Games, it is great to know, that we will have ample creative freedom with ELEX, which is a very important factor for us” said Björn Pankratz, Game Director at Piranha Bytes. "We can't wait to show you a completely new game experience with a fresh setting, new assets and plenty of possibilities."

About ELEX

ELEX is a handcrafted action role-playing experience from the award-winning creators of the Gothic series, set in a brand new post-apocalyptic science fantasy universe that puts players into a huge, seamless game world full of original characters, mutated creatures, deep moral choices and powerful action.

PB have traditionally done small open worlds very well. I hope they keep focused and don't try to offer some "bigger than Skyrim" nonsense.

Unfortunately, console kids seem to be obsessed with having hundreds of square miles of completely empty wasteland.

Console kids love tight corridors filled with conveniently placed junk to cover behind. They also love "large open world experiences" where the world contains nothing interesting or worth exploring.

That's a good thing (for as far as other platforms), or would you rather had seen the previous gen being used? Razz

Who cares, there are many great titles also on consoles. As long as they do it right for each platform, there is no disadvantage, get over it.

PC: Yes. Console: No.

And there are so so so sooooooooo many examples where they did it right yes? Razz
Gamepad and UI in mind... yeah that's going to suck. Hope mods will fix their crap.

Right, because developing with console gamepad and TV UI in mind has never ever come back to bite PC gamer's in the ass. Absolutely not. Look at all these fantastic PC ports lately! They did it right!

~edit~

Entered the thread with some genuine hopes, for the glorious redemption of the Piranhas

Didn't last much Laughing Okay

The name already wasn't promising anything good (ELEX: eclectic, lavish, exhilarating, xenial ), but that very reassuring deja-vu post arrived just in time to make sure that all the enthusiasm receives the coup the grace.
We'll see how the ISOdemo fares, the premises are not exactly great to put it mildly. Damned consoles.. Sad *shakes fist*

They had one job!

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

From what I've read, they've lost a lot of the original talent that worked on the Gothic series and the first Risen.

It's a shame because PB were unique when it came to open world RPGs, and I fear we won't see that style again.
