This was supposed to release in July 2014, but some assholes put Xmen Future Retards on the same date to compete with TBA, so it was pushed to December of 2014.

Our journey to make The Hobbit Trilogy has been in some ways like Bilbo's own, with hidden paths revealing their secrets to us as we've gone along. “There and Back Again” felt like the right name for the second of a two film telling of the quest to reclaim Erebor, when Bilbo’s arrival there, and departure, were both contained within the second film. But with three movies, it suddenly felt misplaced—after all, Bilbo has already arrived “there” in the "Desolation of Smaug".
When we did the premiere trip late last year, I had a quiet conversation with the studio about the idea of revisiting the title. We decided to keep an open mind until a cut of the film was ready to look at. We reached that point last week, and after viewing the movie, we all agreed there is now one title that feels completely appropriate.
And so: "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" it is.
As Professor Tolkien intended, “There and Back Again” encompasses Bilbo’s entire adventure, so don’t be surprised if you see it used on a future box-set of all three movies.
Before then however, we have a film to finish, and much to share with you. It’s been a nice quiet time for us—Jabez and I happily editing away in a dark cave in Wellington—but those halcyon days are quickly coming to an end. It will soon be time to step into the light. Expect to see and hear much about The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies in the coming months.
And there’s also The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Extended Cut, which we’re in the process of finishing, with over 25 mins of new scenes, all scored with original music composed by Howard Shore.
It’ll be a fun year!

Am I the only one who didn't like the previous two?
I don't hate them, but they feel very soulless to me, almost as if Peter Jackson's other endeavours failed so he retreated to a franchise he knows will make money.
Maybe I'm a bit biased because I didn't want to see Peter Jackson's The Hobbit, but Guillermo Del-Toro's.
I wanted to see GDT's take on Middle-earth, Peter Jackson had his trilogy.

Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty

You're not alone. Compared to LOTR trilogy, Hobbit is meh. The first film was ok, but the second one with Tauriel love triangle crap... I'm waiting for EE of second movie, and for someone to edit her parts out. Then it will be watchable again...

This is the first two parts of a long-term project to edit all three Hobbit movies down to one movie, taking out all the stuff added for the movie and making it just a straight adaptation of The Hobbit. A lot of the bits that were made up for the movie were cool; this is just an experiment to see if we could make this work at all. We cut a little under four hours from the movies, making it 2 hour long without credits. Good job, us!
If you watched the movie and have any comments, concerns, problems, suggestions, or whatever, you can contact us atThis isn't the final version of the movie, so don't be shy if you have any feedback for us!
Seems I'm not the only one pissed at unnecessary scenes

I'm a fan of the genre, so I'll probably watch the third movie. But at the end of Desolation... , I was so done with this whole story.
Just fucking kill that dragon already. But nooo, that heroic dude from the nearby city must kill it with his magical lance in movie 3.
There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.

You do know they follow the book? I agree it's kinda unnecessary to stretch it to 3 movies, especially with made up elves.

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

While some of it is made up, there's also quite a bit of backstory that isn't made up (not by them anyway, by Tolkien himself instead ) - it just wasn't in this book.
Although I would've preferred that they did LotR with all the details from the books instead
"From the director (producer, makers, whatever) of...." always sounds negative to me now. Maybe it's because 95/100 times Hollywood makes utter shit these days

Yeah, I've read the Unfinished tales and Silmarillion, but I don't remember the mention of Tauriel And that love stuff between her and Kili is the worst thing that happened to the last movie in my opinion.
I even liked the Dol Guldur scenes, but those love crap stuff were over the top...

Loved the first Hobbit, seen it 2 or 3 times. Second one wasnt as good but i'm still looking forward to the third.
They're obviously more of "popcorn movies" than LOTR, but the sense of adventure is fantastic, reminds me of Indiana Jones a bit (huge fan of all Indy movies, yes even the last is awesome in my book ) I mean pacing, sense of adventure / wonder etc is quite similar, and neither should be taken very seriously.
I think i'll still enjoy watching Hobbit many more times, while with LOTR i have a hard time with it sometimes, much because of Gollum who becomes a very tiresome character.. Not that he's bad, he's a perfect representation, but he's still annoying as hell after you've seen the movies a few times. That constant whining, arghh...
