Set sail and join the colonial powers of Spain, England, France and the Netherlands in their fight for supremacy of the Caribbean in the 17th century. In ‘Port Royale 4’ you will take control of a colony as a young and ambitious governor who is eager to learn what it takes to manage and grow his small settlement into a bustling trader city.
Develop production chains connecting multiple islands and create complex trade routes across the Caribbean, covering the ever-growing needs of the respective cities. Make use of the detailed sea map to avoid stormy weather regions, cliffs or shallow waters. Fulfill tasks for your nation’s viceroy, earning more fame to unlock town buildings, ships and more. Conquer the cities of rival nations or hunt down their fleets with a letter of marque while also keeping a keen eye out for pirates and other privateers.
For the first time in the series, naval battles will be turn-based, with up to 10 ships battling at one time and tactical captain maneuvers that can turn the tide in even the most hopeless of situations for a glorious victory.

I usually don't care for trailers that are all flash with no gameplay, but that one was cool!
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

another minimum effort copy pasta incoming? i really liked PR3 once it got going but can they actually improve the game this time
no faith in these kalypso clowns.
i have no idea what this means for the game really
the battles in PR3 were shit, so this may be an improvement, especially with larger battles being a thing. the 3 ship limitation or whatever in PR3 was a real drag.
Today, when I think of turn-based battles, the first thing that comes to mind is... casual mobile games
And yes, I know there are many games on pc that use turn-based, especially RPG's, but do you really think, we get that kind of "quality" out of Kalypso, lol?

This will be no Larian
well i wasn't thinking that yet.. but now that you mention it.
PR4 will probably feature mobile art and then it will be a done deal
I gave it a try... the benefit of the doubt if you will... I played through the entire tutorial, all 1h20m of it... and tbh, some things I liked, some things I didn't, but then I got to the combat... and I absolutely loathed it. It is abysmal. And it's not even, because it is "just turn-based", no, it's because it is so horrendous cheap, like mobile game cheap, that I lost all interest in the game and refunded it. IF the rest of the game would be at least so superior, that it would kind of makeup for the combat, I maybe could live with it, but everything I've seen just screams casual/boring.
I don't see anything wrong with TBS as a system, in this game its the implementation of it.
Looks to simplistic... Granted its a tutorial that I saw but I have a feeling not much more depth gets added later on.
Yeah, thats the first big problem I saw: no wind or weather. Good luck having depth in your game like that.
Just the wind affecting turns and fog your visibility... also it seems like distance isn't a thing? So whoever the fuck came up with this system seems like he never played proper games.
Turn based combat would be fine, but not this shit version of it. It really is like a shitty mobile game combat. There is no realism in it at all. Not even wind. And some weird ass "skills", lol.
I think the only good quality of the combat is, that you can auto resolve it...
