I'll post this here since there was no dedicated topic and for a while now it's been on indiegogo for a 4.0 version.
Many always say how much worse it is to look movies/series/anime at 60fps. But I just can't go back anymore, not with anime, not with movies, not with series.
I used to love SVP but I haven't used it in quite some time, I think I might check it out, thanks! Is there any reason to try the SVP4 Technical Preview rather than sticking with the latest official? I see neither release has 64bit support yet :\
Idk, I'm still on 3.1.7 now, it had the 40% performance increase update (which is the most important feature in 4.0 IMO).
Though I'm quite sad that they are going to cut features from non paid versions... Guess another program that needs to be cracked...

Well I checked the comparison table and it didn't seem like there was any feature there I'd need/use, so I guess it doesn't really bother me. I just ran 3.1.7 on some vids and it really does look friggin' good.. but then, I always loved video smoothing/interpolation anyhow, and indeed using interpolation ("SmoothMotion" or whatever they call it on TVs) on a 30fps 360 game also looks pretty good, though it gave me a headache after a while and the lag was fairly noticeable in any "fast" game.
ha, that took long...
i also used svp, but i lost interesst in it..
it has some problems, dunno, sometimes its too blury when compared to normal mode in mpchc + madvr.
and, i dont really like this, lets call it, "fast motion" in movies.. its ok for documentaries but movies is another story.. maybe thats just my preference..
madvr does it also in 60fps for me.. with smooth motion and such..
also madvr and svp is really perf. hungry...
now we need an madvr thread also and were good to
edit. i didnt know they are in need of money, what are they collecting for? wasnt this open source?
edit:
well that second video comparsion looks just like the same as with smooth motion enabled in madvr.. hmmm

No having MPC with EVR custom (and currently having the internal LAV to DXVA2 instead of CUVID due to windows 10 and shitty nvidia drivers for it).
Never really got into using madvr as output idk why though..
What settings etc would you like me to test it with?

MadVR is the King....
you really should take another, deep, look at it.. theres no better renderer..
i use dxva2 copy-back...
since it allows the gpu to go into a lower state unlike cuvid.. the quality is the same as far as i can tell, only diff. is that avi/xvid gets rendered via software.. but who cares...
anyway, since u offered to test it. here are the most important settings i use..
processing:
artifact removal - on - both on high.
image enhancements:
adaptiveSharpen - 0.1
scaling algo.:
chroma up: - superXBR (100) - activate anti ring. - activate superRes (p2 - strengh:1.00 - soft. - 0.00)
or nnedi3 64...i switch them often enough cause i cant decide, haha.
image downscaling:
Lanczos (4 taps) activate anti ring - scale in linear light.
image doubling:
double luma res - double chroma res.:
NNEDI3 64 neurons, both luma and chroma.
Rendering:
general sett.
automatic fullscreen exclusive mode, enable windowed overlay (nvidia only).
no dx11 path. doesnt work right here..
smooth motion:
enable - always or if the display refresh rate is an exact... bla bla
dithering:
error diffusion option 1
use colored noise
change dither for every frame
trade quality for performance:
UNTICK everything besides "optimize subtitle quality for perf....
that should be the most important onces i think...
about adaptiveSharpen, i dont use it allways, sometimes even 0.1 is too much, so i have made one that i edited in mpchc and use it from there as Post shader..
edit: dunno if that matters, but im using the 64bit mpchc and 64bit madvr combo....
is svp also 64bit?

the first time i tried madvr it was like day and night..
remember series in xvid instead of mp4?
in the backgroudn if its dark or grey u had alot of artefacts in teh background, also banding all over when there is an grey or yelowish wall/background.. madvr fixed that totaly...
480p looks allmost like 720p now, and smooth motion, oh well, is another story..
for example, the hulu 720p xfiles where a bit jumpy when it comes to panning or camera motion from left to right etc.. smooth motion fixed it complete.. awesome stuff...
you can test smooth motion with this:
go into the folder "madTestPatternSource"
and test the smoothmotion ramps, with smooth motion enabled/disabled in madvr.. you will spot the difference very easy..
what hardware you have?
the settings may be pretty different from what i can do.. if u got good hardware you can go even further..
also, more sometimes doesnt mean better, in madvr..
thats why it is important to know what each function does..
edit:
allmost forgot..
disable every so called video enhancement in nvidia panel if you have NV, same goes for AMD, where it is even worse in that regards..
quick and dirty comparsion with wayward pines..
Bottom one is MADVR
I haven't had time yet (been messing around with my stock cooler and back on stock clocks, since my H100i broke), but I haven't forgotten it. I'll do it one of these days (plus I should have my OC on with that combination I guess ).

That's because the human brain can't deal with 60fps,it's all placebo

Saner is not being serious. Unless its the subject of Santa!
I tried SVP before, but found that it took up way too much processing power when interfaced with MPC. Just use Splash Pro EX if you want your smooth playback.

It's not as smooth (even on 60p setting), plus more artifacts (hence the lower rendering power needed). Especially with anime (I've used SP EX for many years too, and still have it on laptop (since that's i3), it's good, but SVP is better )

I did all that and made screenshots for comparison.
None of the settings have a visible difference, except the dithering, that is the only thing/difference I can see.
hmmm, ok.
what OS do you use? what driver for teh gpu / what gpu ??
i can only imagine that you use win 10 and under win 10 there are some probs with madvr..
you should deffo see a difference when using image doubling, PAUSE the video and try diff. image doubling options, use superXBR at 75 then switch to 150, if you dont see a diff. on the paused picture, then something is wrong at your end.
from 75 to 150 you should clearly see a more sharpen picture.. for example.-.
we will figure this out

Has anyone gotten this to run *with* OpenCL/Acceleration under Windows 10 using latest 355.60 drivers? If GPU Acceleration is enabled, it freezes within a few seconds of playback, but if acceleration is disabled then it works fine ... though at 100% CPU usage
Oh well. DXVA2 simply isn't good enough, not when it's 100% CPU usage just watching a video
~edit~
Never mind, switching to DXVA2 *and* keeping GPU-Acceleration in SVP Manager seems to work. 100>30% CPU, hardware accelerated, smooth 60fps enabled \o/ Though I'm having some serious playback issues with MPCHC on Win10, most of the time loading a video just has it freeze the player :\
Yup, I can't run any videos with LAV installed/setup. They only work via ffdshow and that doesn't give HW acceleration.. it *used* to have DXVA but later versions have seemingly removed that.
Yup, I can't run any videos with LAV installed/setup.
Works fine here, btw. With the internal versions of mpc-hc. Though I deactivated the HW Acceleration for more headroom for madvr, which it actually needs in some cases
Well it doesn't work here and I'm not the only one either, according to the complaints I've been seeing online. Removing Klite or SVP or Shark007 and even just using a pure MPHC download, doesn't work either.. you can "set" DXVA in the menu or via the internal LAV splitter, but it doesn't work. No [HW] notification at the bottom of MPCHC means no HW acceleration at all.. and manually installing LAV splitters causes the same thing again; MPCHC freezes. All the time. So it doesn't work for me.
Here.
It doesn't work HERE. FOR ME.
Just have to point that out once more.
If you have any idea how to setup MPCH with fully working HW, using LAV, on Windows 10, with an nVidia card and today's just-released 355.60 drivers.. I'd be incredibly grateful.
No [HW] notification at the bottom of MPCHC means no HW acceleration at all
Actually I only trusted the claim of madvr in its output, that DXVA was used. I would need to test, if it shows up at the bottom MPC-HC. I usually use the video-only GUI, so I didn't know that there is some information there
I trust the display If it doesn't say that it's using HW acceleration (like MPC-BE, which has a "GPU" symbol show up when hardware decoding is used) - either way, it's pissing me off because it worked 100% on Win8.1 and now doesn't work at all in Win10.
Okay, the mpc information and madvr seem to match up (good ), however, DXVA is activated for mts and 8 bit h.264. 10 bit h.264 doesnt work, but that may be normal. Although that would make DXVA even more useless to me
Anyway, unfortunately it seems to work fine here, but I can't tell you why. My drivers are not up to date though (353.62)
