This. In the universe this vast the thought that there is no intelligent life on other planet(s) is naive.

If we take the true meaning of the abbreviation that is UFO and not what most people make out of it... then yes they exist.

Alien life... Does exist in some form or another. We'll just have to find it for now.

But look at that article... yes people defending shit like that will always be nutcases to me. Even more so when they start to throw in blurry potato pictures and theories of a whole world covering it up.

You are a nutcase

Or its naive to think that just because its so big, that there must be other intelligent life.

Im on your side though. It would surprise me, if there was no intelligent life.

To date we've only found life 1 place in the universe and only looked for life in negligable amount of places. I have a hard time seeing how in any reasonable way we can extrapolate this fact to whether there is life or no other life in the universe. Calling it naive to think one way or the other seems pointless and wrong.

And I have no problem with that, hell I have friends who are even nuttier than that. They believe in some mystical being in the sky that will intervene with personal matters. Cool Face

I will say however, on a more serious note: I like entertaining some theories and such on the subject... but the selling it as truth bugs me. It's all based on beliefs, feelings and usually discarding logical things just to fit those believes (Yup, it does sound a lot like religion.).

I think the wanting to believe is natural, the believing in itself not so much.

Me too - I even give a lot of credence to the Ancient Alien theory, there is a lot of good evidence that supports it, although the series with the same name sometimes pushes things too far - Gods were aliens, IMO yes. Flies are alien probes... not so much Laughing

Believing in UFOs/Aliens seems more plausible than believing in magical skylords that farted us into existence. If they call you a nutjob for doing so... I want to be one too. Would be less embarrassing Very Happy

By definition a UFO can NOT be an alien space ship (if we could identify it as such it would not be a UFO). UFO is anything you see flying/hovering without knowing what the hell it his. That's why most UFO's happen to be weather phenomena, ISS passing across the night sky (looks like a moving star) and so on.

Once it's identified (whether it's of alien origin or a natural/human phenomenon) it's no longer a UFO.

With that said I can say that I have a hard time believing we're the only planet harboring life in the local universe. I have no proof so I cannot say I know there is life outside our solar system but statistically and from what we know about what is required to support life it's more like 99.99999999999999% chance of life elsewhere in our universe.

The problem is that in the time-scale of the universe we've existed less than it takes for a fart to disappear. Millions of civilizations of various alien forms could have formed and gone extinct before Earth even had it's first mollusk in the puddle of life.

If we take astronomical distances in account it's so unlikely that an alien species has visited Earth that Scientology comes across as the true religion by the 99.999% percentile.

Most "alien visitors"-supporters etc. simply lack knowledge about basic astrophysics. The distances are so enormous that we might as well look for smurfs to attack the White House. This leads to the conclusion that mankind is stuck in our solar system. Our solar system is basically a prison. We might reach Alpha Centauri A/B or Proxima Centauri but we won't find life or any life-supporting planets/planetoids.

Even Kepler-438b (the "earth-like planet") is a wild guess and even if it had water and an oxygen/nitrogen atmosphere it happens to be 470 light-years away and would take something like ~1000-2500 generations (or more) to reach if we managed to build a huge self-sustaining generation space ship, something that we won't be able to build for ~half a millennium.

For the foreseeable future we're locked in the "prison" we call the solar system in which Earth resides. The distances between solar systems are so enormous that it's nearly unfathomable.

There could be microscopic life, like bacteria etc. Or some primitive amoebas in another planet's ocean. That's not really terrifying, is it?

It may not really be ground-breaking for biology, either.

To comment on Fox News vs. RT. They are both ratard.

One must keep in mind though that Fox News sells media to the right-wing. If a Democratic president (In this case Obama) is in office they will criticize him/democrats as much as possible. The US government is questioned by Fox News on a daily basis, and bullshit news stories are made to support that message.

Does RT do the same? Does RT have a constant propaganda campaign criticizing Putin?

You don't need to actually answer that question, we all know the answer.

Now, with those in mind, let's continue:

Interesting interpretation. I gave my personal subjective opinion from my perspective, nothing more.

As for a, b and c you have probably missed the discussions about physics I've taken part of (and sometimes started).

We CAN'T do it. I thought I didn't have to spell out "FOR THE MOMENT" or "NOW". I've come up with or picked up various ideas about A, B and C.

But at the same time you're doing the actual "someone who knows everything about the Universe and it's physics"-thing you blame me for:

Kaltern wrote:

a) solve gravity
b) understand just how a black hole singularity works
c) discover the true nature of dark matter and energy.

So that's the TRUTH then? Isn't that claim a bit presumptuous? I don't believe for a second that we will "understand" physics (as in having the key to understand everything about the physics of the Universe) when those goals have been reached. Those are some of MANY current goals. 80+ years ago science had goals that some thought were the final pinnacle and master keys of physics.

The more we dig, the more there is to explore. We may never master physics to it's fullest extent but will learn more and more.

There was simply no reason for you to create a rather arrogant and antagonistic reply.
