Stasis is a 2D isometric, point-and-click adventure game for PC Windows, set in the distant future on a desolate spacecraft. John Maracheck must interact and solve puzzles to save his family, while uncovering horrific experimentation, illicit research and an ever deepening mystery.
Standing on the shoulders of greatness, Stasis follows the game-play mechanics of classics like Space Quest, Kings Quest, the Monkey Island series, The Dig and Day of the Tentacle. The critically acclaimed, Sanitarium - a psychological horror adventure game - used a similar graphical setup to Stasis. Stasis follows this unique visual aspect to bring this terrifying tale to life.
You direct John using the point-and-click interface. John must explore his environment by walking around, using equipment and interacting with the computers, machinery and the inhabitants that populate the spaceship.
Stasis also features an inventory system (Quantum Storage Device) that allows John to utilize items that may be useful. These items can be combined with each other to change their function and accomplish complex tasks. Various puzzles and problems must be solved to progress further into the bowels of the Groomlake. A rich story is weaved through the puzzles and environments while several characters push the narrative forward to a horrific conclusion.
CORE GAME FEATURES:
Classic point-and-click adventure game mechanics
Expansive areas to explore - with puzzles that span multiple rooms and entire floors of the Groomlake
A compelling sci-fi story set in a rich futuristic world
Highly detailed rendered 2D isometric graphics
Multiple isometric zoom levels in different areas
Varied environments; from re-purposed warehousing facilities, to sterile medical suites and overgrown hydroponic bays and more...
All these one-man projects lately are nothing short of amazing, and this one makes no exception. I'm glad Kickstarter is letting all these talented guys fulfill their dream(s), as well as the gamers'. Win-win
There's a texture with a polish sign on it. Infirmary has "Nie dotykać, urządzenie elektryczne" written on it (that's "Danger, high voltage" ). Strange
Atmosphere and GFX is pretty cool, animation too. Some SFX makes you rise eyebrow or two sometimes, but real issue is the voiceover. Altho, this is expected for indie project.
Gameplay is disappointing, though. Some pixelhunting + often completely nonsensical and random puzzles. Hope it will be worked out.
P.S. Nice homage to HL1, tho.
UPD:
Okay, wtf:
>2 weeks break
Someone should pay this guy to remake Fallout 1/2.
The alpha already showed a great potential especially in the atmosphere department. Though I have to agree with Kein about the puzzles part, they didn't feel particularly inspired. Anyway it's definitely too early to judge, I'm fairly confident that the final game will have lots of surprises and good stuff going on. It has to!
The alpha was almost unbearably blurry for me. I just checked the Kickstarter comments and the developer said the game runs at 720p and won't be changed. I don't understand why, when there are high res patches for old 2D games like Baldur's Gate 2 and Planescape Torment.
Yea, but in the end all those games were made for specific resolutions, and on higher resolutions there are always inconsistencies, if not outright problems. It's a natural limitation of 2d art. He chose 720p, maybe for better compatibility, who knows, and later in development it's not that simple to change that. I'm not a big fan of that myself, but that can't diminish the fact that game still looks amazing.
As for the game itself, I really don't know. Adventure games live and die by the story, and I wasn't convinced by what I saw.
Around 2 hours left to back the project on kickstarter if anyone still hasn't backed (that wanted to). Btw there is a way to back via paypal now if that helps.
