So I usually don't create new threads but I vaguely remember reading about this game here somewhere but searching for it revealed nothing, it's basically a re-imagining of how role-playing games used to be in the early days. Smile

Saw it on GoG and was surprised that it had been released so I checked on the official website which confirmed it.

Swords and Sorcery – Underworld Gold is a kickback to the 80s dungeon crawler, featuring old school party creation, adventuring, storyline, turn-based tactical combat with spells, skills and hundreds of mystical, sharp or bludgeoning loot…

Quote:

Swords and Sorcery - Underworld Gold is a kickback to the 80s dungeon crawler: 1st person, turn-based, step-based and party-based. Note that the Gold version is still undergoing the final stages of testing and should be released in the coming days.

Abstract yet deeply tactical combat, with distance and timing management.

Six classes: Knight, Paladin, Archer, Rogue, Priest and Sorcerer.
Four races: Human, Elf, Dwarf and Gnome.

Characters will develop a variety of abilities and strengths that depend on these choices. Knights, for instance, learn Ambidextria, Powerhouse and Berserk as they earn higher levels.

40 spells (Priest and Sorcerer, outdoor and indoor, combat and non-combat).

100 illustrated enemies, many of which have one or two special abilities that offer varied challenges. Some, for instance will summon new enemies. Some will throw bombs, turn characters to stone or lock them in an inferno until the battle ends... If they survive that long...

250 items, many with magical or otherwise valuable properties.

Three towns to discover and travel back to for food, equipment, healing and other services offered by NPCs.

Many unique NPCs that will offer quests, help your party gain in strength, guide you or deceive you.

Traps, puzzles, slides and teleports add a variety of non-combat challenges. Puzzles are largely integrated in your interaction with the game world.

Dynamic world map illustrates 20 levels as they are discovered.

40 fullscreen story illustrations.

Optional automap.

He's also apparently trying for Steam Greenlight and GoG. Smile

It bothers me that I couldn't find the thread about this, I'm nearly 100% certain that it was on these forums I heard about it but as I said searching around found absolutely nothing so now here's a thread for the game.

No idea about copy protection or such either, I guess a release wouldn't be too problematic, also there is a demo and there's some better media about the game on the website I linked to.

EDIT: It's basically these types of games.

(Warning, might lead to eye damage.)

I am all for gameplay - but really? I would rather play Sword & Sorcery the original bookstyle...

There are two kinds of people I can't stand in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures, and the Dutch.

A new version of the game is available on Steam. Smile
(Mixed rating currently as there's only three reviews and one of them is negative as he got ambushed by drakes in the tavern, as people probably know from playing the old Might & Magic games and the like don't rest in unsafe locations, tavern is not the same as the inn. Razz )
