Unreal Tournament 2004 and its infinite array of mods. I'm downloading FragOps for UT2004 as we speak, so we'll see if the supposedly 'best weapon models in any game ever' are up to spec. We will see. If not, back to Red Orchestra.

I have been playing UO for years, but it was too time consuming, so i had to quit. But still great game if you like RPGs and the Ultima series.

Try Enemy Territory, it's free and one of the best multiplayer games out there.
You will get addicted only in a few hours of play.

Hmmm, i was wondering about BFV is it really any good?
UT2004 is good fun too, i may buy that.
COD, i love the kill cam but i already completed singleplayer, shame on me for downloading it It is possible to play without a legit CDkey, i know i did when it first came out but that may have been patched.
UO would probably be too difficult for me to get into at this point, you really need to play for a while before you enjoy it. Or am i wrong?
I will definitly try tribes 1 and enemy territory, almost any free game is worth a try.
Joint ops, i thought the demo was ok but half the people are snipers. There was one point when i was playing when as soon as anyone got into a helicopter they died as there were about 6 snipers lurking around. Thats no fun. But the map size, player limit and scale are plus point.
THX for the suggestions any more are welcome.

Play MM's if you have the cash. By far the best online experience. If you arent a fan of the RPG genre, try Planetside.

UO is the second best game i've played after Half-Life (not talking of CS, which is great online too) and for sure the best multiplayer game. No you are not wrong saying you need to play a bit before enjoying because it's very complex but with someone explaining to you in-game it's ok Plus, there are tones of free servers out there, just grab one who fill your need (normal OSI style, full GM-at-all-skill deathmatch, full role-play, Blue VS PK, etc)
bad side : graphics who are 7year old, tons and tons of bugs (like on any Ultima game), most are good for the player cause you take advantage of them, and some can't just be fixed while keeping all the liberty of the game

If u want a FPS the ONLY way to go is BF1942 + mods aswell as BFV (these games have the biggest community after cs)
If u want a RTS then Rise Of Nations is great online
And BTW i hate MMOGS.... they are far far to time consuming in my book (Yes i have tried alot)
BFV is not better than BV1942 IMHO... gfx are pretty much the same.. at well 1942 has better gameplay, mods and maps
Anyways im sure if u search around u can get a package of both of them for a low price

another vote for BF1942.
i would say BF Vietnam aswell but that is kind of crap replay value wise compared to BF1942 seeing as that has tons of cool mod's and bfv doesnt yet.

I'd vote for Tribes with the Shifter mod... Man I loved Tribes/Shifter... Unfortunately, I can't seem to get the version of tribes that gamespy distributes to install... =(

Battlefield 1942 or Vietnam
Counterstrike
Day of Defeat
Call of Duty
Age of Empires 2 / Age of Mythology (Some of the best rts made by people other then Blizzard)
Unreal Tourny 03 or 04
Next week Soldiers: Heros of World War 2 is coming out. Try the demo, personally I think it's a great game. Should have a decent mod community (people have already begun modding off of the files contained in the demo) and good support.
If you have enough money and can pay a monthly fee I would suggest:
Planetside
Infantry (good old 2-d action over at the Sony Station)
World of Warcraft will be out in a few months.
City of Heros I've heard decent things from pals about.
Of course there is always *drum roll* Half Life 2! *waits for laughing to stop* It's loosely scheduled for a late August early September release.

I can definately toss a vote for BFV and UT2004, they are just awesome and only getting better.
The BFV 1.1 patch is near, and for both games a ton of mods are nearing release (or are already released!).
I can also toss a vote for UO. You can download it for free and jump on any of the free shards. The most popular ones are probably:
http://ipyshard.com/
http://www.uogamers.com/
Of course Ragnarok Online is also fun sometimes. The official servers have a free 15 day trial thing going, or just play on free shards. Good place to start:
http://aegis.de.tf/
Oh yes, Ground Control II is very good also. It has a neat co-op mode that I have been having a lot of fun with.
