They abandoned space because they couldn't get the fraggin' formations to work or something?
Deeply annoyed at this. Next I'm sure they'll turn it into a moba.
I loved the 3d space aspect of Homeworld. This is something different rebranded to Homeworld for the milkage. You can see the similarities in UI and so forth. Who the fuck likes sand.
I still remember when this game was first announced as F2P title, it was quite heartbreaking. At least Randybox did one thing right (two if we consider the good remasters) by turning the concept into..something that isn't too hollow. It might end up sucking but at least I'm interested again
Radio chatter and the style overall is so authentic it brings nostalgic feelings to me, even though i replayed HW1-2 not so long ago, and this isnt even in space, feels strange
And this might work out allright, while true 3d of original Homeworld games was undeniably cool, it was underused as a gameplay mechanic, i dont recall utilising it much to gain an advantage. Also, if it succeeds, we might see HW3. I'd really like to know what lies beyond the Eye of Aarran!
""We've become experts at production and that's where we can help. I mean, we shipped Duke Nukem Forever, we didn't build it but we made sure it came out. And that's a fucking miracle.""
- Pitchford
LOL, Pitchford needs to shut the hell up.
Anyway, this needs to be approached as something else than Homeworld. Just like Rainbow Six: Siege has to be approached as something not Rainbow Six. If they had named these games something else we'd all be able to go into it with a clean slate and experience it without the ties to previously beloved titles. Instead the power is too strong in the old names.
This game was called Hardware: Shipbreakers before Gearbox slapped the Homeworld name on it. It was meant to be a game designed in the spirit of the Homeworld games. Now it is intended to be like a prequel-thingamabob or something.
