This combat system with slowdown frames on hit should have died by now. It's nice that you can mix abilities with party members, but it's nothing so spectacular. I'd take DMC5's or Souls-like combat over this any day.
Loving the combat so far as the girl one, and actually prefer the cutscenes only for dramatic events, with just the slides for most dialog as JRPG dialog is usually very boring and I just skip through all the cliches.
Not a fan of environments though.
Also I hate how they did that intro cinematic after the prologue showing all the characters because it kinda spoils stuff don't it? Gee, I wonder why this major character isn't in it. Though I'm still in chapter 1 and hope I'm wrong.
The writing ain't great. It has a lot of over the top moments that are not really thought through (like bringing the army to fire rockets in a city) or just cringe dialogues. But the overall story does seem intriguing enough.

That's just normal for JRPGs or Anime in general. I play tons of them so i don't even really notice it anymore in fact this one of the better written JRPGs i have played in recent times. You should try playing something like Trails of Cold Steel or Xenoblade 2 if you want to see some really bad writing (still loved those games ). And yeah story and world building is truly great in this game i also really like the combat it's just fun and very flashy.
