Some friends and I have a hankering for some Halo multiplayer this weekend and i was wondering if anyone is in the loop on using Halo Online outside of Russia?
I know it had been leaked and people were playing about with it some months ago but when i did some googling it all seemed to be gone.
Can i still download and play this? or should i resign myself to halo 2 mp
According to a post on the Russian social media network VK, Halo Online, Microsoft’s experiment with publishing a free-to-play online shooter in Russia, has been cancelled.
It’s a quiet end for 343’s experiment with free-to-play games. The game was developed in partnership with Russian publisher Innova Systems and developer Saber Interactive, who hosted a closed alpha and beta of the game on Innova’s 4games platform in 2015.
saw that coming since they had to stop development months ago. now ms pulled the plug completely. maybe (and thats my hope) cause of newer halo titles coming to pc and they dont want their own f2p competitor to fuck up their sales (even if it was prior only available in putinland)

Since we got the map editor from Halo 5, maybe we get the multiplayer part of Halo 6.
And then with Halo 7 the complete package.

Comes out tomorrow i'm not crazy about Halo but this looks genuinely more fun then most of the modern mp fps games these days to me, granted coming from pretty much only playing UT and Quake i was never really able to adapt to them in the first place so i will definitely give it a go.

The "popular" games probably have way bigger problems with cheating then smaller community driven projects like this and for me it's either playing something like this or nothing at all since i can't get into the slow and boring fps kids these days seem to favor.

is there even an anticheat in this game?
It's a community made open source project so probably not. Very few games are without cheaters, regardless of anticheat systems and the more popular a game is the worse it get's. Setting up an anticheat system would take up heaps of time and could impair other functions - after all, this is pretty much a mod itself, completely open source - and then you have a cat and mouse game of better cheats vs stricter anticheat, and the collateral will cost legit players game functionality.
Time and time again the best anticheat has been a good community culture. If no one wants to cheat, no one will cheat. Bringing back honor and the idea that we are all in this together because we want to be, will do more to stop cheats than any cheat detector, you know like it used to be back in the days.
And yeah this Gamecheat13 guy is actually a dev it's just nick he probably thought was funny dunno.

What about cheats guise? Should be a nightmare if it's player-hosted...?
Admins are a thing you know? I know ppl today are used to games invested with Chinese cheaters and kids but i didn't encounter that so far i guess it's not really a thing they are interested in considering it's mostly a nostalgia game for older folks who play for fun and nothing else.
I think M$ decided to stop development of the game because they already had Halo 5: Forge on the way which is basically the same but with more updated engine and limited to Win10store,bu not limited to Russia.
I find this better then Forge becuase of less restrictions and its more "open-source" nature.
I wish someone could port/mod this to add Halo3 up to 4 single players somehow.
ElDewrito's team somewhat confusing with their statements that its not possible to direct port but they are working on something.
