Rad Rodgers is an action-packed 4th-wall busting 3D side-scroller inspired by the precision platformers of the 90's, powered by today's Unreal Engine 4.
We are Interceptor Entertainment, a young, experienced team of developers, making it our personal mission to recreate our childhood favorite genre of game; an action-packed scrolling platformer with two characters: twelve year-old Rad Rodgers and his console-come-to-life ball busting buddy, Dusty.
Dusty is an overused last generation video game console who's likely just one restart away from a red-ring-of-death. He rides along in Rad's backpack, providing (sometimes questionable) verbal support, and lays waste with his punching power gloves.
We feel that this mostly forgotten genre -- which ruled for ten strong years beginning in the mid-80's -- is in dire need of a revival using today's most modern engine, Unreal 4, with a Rick and Morty sense of humor.
Quote:
Weapons: Dusty arms Rad with a variety of radical bad-ass weaponry. The Bolt Blaster has unlimited ammo, is easy to use, and more than enough firepower to get the job done. The Phoenix Cannon shoots out a fiery bird whose wingspan lights enemies ablaze as it flies by. There are 5+ weapons in this first chapter, with more to come.
Sounds & Music: Our composer Andrew Hulshult combined his years of musical experience (both performing and writing) with his passion for retro-style gaming to create an amazing and authentic soundtrack for the game complete with MIDI-inspired music... And synthesizers!
The Pixelverse: While Rad and Dusty are a great team, only Dusty can enter the electrified Pixelverse -- a dangerous spacetime-breaking region that exists behind the game world. Dusty enters the Pixelverse when necessary to repair glitches in the running game world, allowing both Rad & Dusty to continue their journey.
Classic Easter Eggs: The game features hard-to-find collectibles in sometimes even harder-to-find classic secret rooms. Use your precision platforming skills to collect 'em all.
Voice Acting:Dusty is voiced by none other than incomparable industry legend Jon St John. Rad's human counterpart is breakout child star Hunter Pratt. The two distinct personalities nurture a rare and cherished bond that can be felt throughout the entire game.
Humor & Gore: Rad Rodgers may appear to be an 'E for Everyone' game at first glance, but it's not. The explicit language, SFW adult themes, and the sometimes overkill action plants it firmly in the 'M for Mature' category (actual ESRB/PEGI/USK rating still pending).
Unreal Engine 4: Powered by Epic's incredible Unreal Engine 4, we're able to put more details than ever before into Rad Rodgers.

I was watching the KS video, it looks like good old school platform-y fun with a pinch of humour which never hurts (with the omnipresent Jon St. John <3). Hope they make it
3D Realms isn't a co-developer, Interceptor bought the 3DR name a couple years ago and just slaps the logo on their games as a marketing ploy. I think their only connection to the original team is Scott Miller who still owns Apogee.
I love those old Apogee platformers - Alien Carnage (aka Halloween Harry), Jazz Jackrabbit, Commander Keen, etc. Back then I had tired of console platform games but these still felt different and fun. Halloween Harry had the vending machines, jetpack and zombies, Jazz Jackrabbit had the speed and the great music, Commander Keen was just fun and the pogostick was great. You also had Bio Menace which I loved dearly - far more brutal than any console platformer with gore as creatures explode.
But, part of the charm were the pixel graphics. I wonder how well it will "feel" to play.
We're proud to announce the release date of Rad Rodgers!
The first world will be out on:
DECEMBER 1, 2016

Rad Rodgers Beta Patch 0.3 is LIVE!
- New Name. Rad Rodgers: World One
...
Can't find any info on other "episodes" or anything though, rushed decision perhaps?
(Seems weird to me but I guess I'm old, Super Mario Bros had 8 worlds with 4 levels each not 8 separate installments with 4 levels each.)
EDIT: Rise of the Triad and Bombshell, fun simple shooters but not that spectacular or well selling and then there's 3D Realms which I have no idea on how they are financially but it could be money problems or money in relation to time that lead to this split but what do I know, maybe the actual backers got some more in-depth info.
I think it's going to be episodic in the same way Telltale games are, you've bought the full game but they release the worlds as they complete the development on them as Kickstarter backers who backed the full game have the same steam version as people who buy world one on Steam.
That could work, though why the name change if that's how it's planned?
(Eh I guess it might still work or they might update it as more content is finished.)
Nope, looks like I was wrong. The answer I received from a dev:

The beta doesnt have all the levels, but the full release will include the first full world.
Our plan is to release one world at a time as episodes. We wanted to try something new with this model, as we always thought that other "World" based games (Like Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario etc), simply deliver 8 worlds, with the exact same game mechanics, but with new challenges and levels.
We wanted to focus on unique mechanics, settings and story for each of the worlds, which allows us to explore and innovate way more than usual for future worlds. World One will surve as the "Base" experience, and give you the first full world of the game, with the core mechanics in place. We're also a small self funded independent studio, and we believe in quality over quantity.
So we made the decision early on to focus on a higher quality game, as a single world, than a lower quality game with multiple worlds, at a very reasonable pricepoint. We can't wait to show you more of what we have planned for future worlds!

Also good to note, Worlds are very standalone experiences. You will be able to pick and choose which worlds you want to explore as more are released. But future worlds will be sold separately. We'll probably do cool bundles, too.
I played some isodemo out of curiosity, the game itself is definitely on the rough side but it's decent, with its classic platform-y approach, pleasant visuals and design, not without inexplicable slowdowns - a tradition in 201X PC gaming.
But releasing a bloody platformer in episodic form? Now that's a bold, dirty move men. This fragmentation generated by utter greediness and laziness has to stop before it's too la...it's already too late
