Based on the tales of Edgar Allan Poe, Mike Flanagan‘s final series for Netflix is “The Fall of the House of Usher,” and it’s headed our way this Halloween season.
The limited series from Intrepid Pictures is “based on multiple works from Poe,” and Netflix recently announced that “Usher” will premiere on October 12, 2023.
“In this wicked 8-episode limited series based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe, ruthless siblings Roderick and Madeline Usher have built Fortunato Pharmaceuticals into an empire of wealth, privilege and power. But past secrets come to light when the heirs to the Usher dynasty start dying at the hands of a mysterious woman from their youth.”
The ensemble cast will include Carla Gugino (Gerald’s Game, “The Haunting of Hill House”), Mary McDonnell (Scream 4), Carl Lumbly (Doctor Sleep), and Mark Hamill.
Bruce Greenwood (Gerald’s Game) is playing Roderick Usher.
Carla Gugino told Tudum.com last year during production, “It’s batshit crazy in the best possible way. It has quite a lot of very dark humor, but also really touches the soul.”
Michael Trucco, T’Nia Miller, Paola Nuñez, Henry Thomas, Kyleigh Curran, Samantha Sloyan, Rahul Kohli, Kate Siegel, Sauriyan Sapkota, Zach Gilford, Willa Fitzgerald, Katie Parker, Malcolm Goodwin, Crystal Balint, Aya Furukawa, Daniel Jun, Matt Biedel, Ruth Codd, Annabeth Gish, Igby Rigney and Robert Longstreet also star.
The first reviews are out for Mike Flanagan’s “The Fall of the House of Usher” mini-series and its unanimously very positive so far.
TV Guide says its “archer and funnier than most Flanagan efforts” and calls it “reminiscent at times of Succession” along with saying it “grows darker and more somber as it progresses”.
Collider calls it his most conventional horror series, yet “hinges on strong, complex emotions that do more than just get your heart pounding”. Consequence says it has “a meaty pitch, elevated by a cast that has never been better.”
i think the first half was very good, and was good untill the end but some of that mistery goes away but still has its very good moments. overall another great flanagan show but did not top the masterclass midnight mass. shame his contract is up on netflix, i rather watch shows like this from him than movies he does
And whoops, everyone is bisexual (and/or interracial)! Over the top "representation" even by Netflix standards. It's so forced that it only holds the immersion and story back. I don't mind gay people etc. but come on...
