I need help folks, I need games to give to my mother. She has a good computer (built by myself so it'll run whatever you throw at it) and I've already installed a super collection of good and nostalgic NES/SNES games in a simple emulator form that anyone could use. I tried letting her play some first person games but she feels sick from it and doesn't really get into it... She loves the old NES/SNES games though, Zelda and Metroid/Super Metroid in particular.

So... I need some suggestions on more modern games that have the kind of gameplay you would find on the NES/SNES. It can be complex, so long as you could see it (gameplay wise) as something could have existed on the NES/SNES (or close). This means platformers are good, anything that's like Zelda, Super Metroid and Mario is great. No free form 3D movement though, not yet at least. I have to slowly ease her into more complex gaming, hence why I want more modern games. I do want to avoid facebook-like games if possible unless they're really outstanding.

These are the games I've gotten so far (but haven't given to her yet):
Secrets of Grindea - Obviously a lot like Zelda and really fun but it's not finished so it will have to wait until it's done, story wise.
Hero Siege - Simple but can be kinda fun.
Dust: An Elysian Tale - Probably good for her, I myself enjoyed it a lot.
Braid - Simple mechanics, and gets progressively more difficult (which is good).
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons - Not sure if she'll be able to adapt to the way you control the characters but amazing game so it's there of course.
Broforce - Simple mechanics but I don't think she'll like it, it's waaaay too short as well.
Unravel - I have yet to play this myself but from watching gameplay videos I know she'd like it.
Super Meat Boy - Very unsure, I think it's a little too punishing for her liking (unlike me, I'm a complete masochist with games).

I'm sure there are lots I've missed and can't remember but please do mention any you can think of. It doesn't have to be like Zelda, Metroid or Mario, it can be like other games as well as long as it's not a more advanced (relatively speaking) third or first person game. I need simple and easy to get used to mechanics. I think she'd also like puzzle and/or hidden object games but I know absolutely NOTHING about ANY games in those two genres since they're very far from what I would play.

Thanks beforehand. Smile

*edit* By modern games I don't mean anything in the last two years, I don't really have a minimum year, as long as it runs on modern PCs without issues and can use a proper 1080p resolution it's fine. You guys decide what's modern. Smile She also has a 360 controller I've given to her, since that works well with the NES/SNES emulator.

This is great, go go Yondy's mum! *one of us, one of us* Very Happy
I can't even try it with mine as she despises technology with a passion, especially computers Sad Laughing

My suggestions: Trine series, Ori and the Blind Forest , Rayman Origins/Legends, Aquaria, LIMBO, Thomas Was Alone, Rochard, Unmechanical, The Swapper, Never Alone, Bastion, Valiant Hearts, Shovel Knight, Giana Sisters.
These should all be reasonably challenging and intriguing (hopefully) without being too unforgiving. Though there are some parts that might be infuriating, patience will be required.. but it's all part of the learning process! Smile

Very Happy

Sorry, couldn't resist, but that's what I see my older clients playing

SimCity/Cities Skylines or mgmt games like that have been popular might be a good choice.

A lot has been mentioned but here's some.

Guacamelee - combat is fun and satisfying and rather deep. Great style also.

Frogwares Sherlock Holmes games or adventure games in the more classical style in general (Still Life series, Deponia, Broken Age, Syberia, Longest Journey, Lost Crown etc). These usually are in 3D/2,5D but have point and click gameplay only or the option for it so probably not too complex.

FTL maybe?

Oh and of course Kings Bounty Razz

Stardew Valley that just came out might be a great choice.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
