As most of you know, I'm a huge MM fan. I've never been one to overhype a game besides.. well my mistake of Doom3. Anyway, this game.. looks fabulous for the MM genre. Finally some new things. Implementing a cool way of playing 'single player' sort of, as well as some elements of twitch gaming and what seems to be a well thought out class system, this might be the ultimate WoW killer for those of us that have been 'raiding' and MMing for a long time, not just people who want to dick around.

Thoughts?

Uhuh. Way to go. Instead of cleaning the bullshit out of existing threads and removine dupes we merge 'em...

P.S. and i don't use AG.RU as a screenshot source out of patriotism. the only reason is the absence of ads, faster image loading and real-time image control like brightness etc if compared to foreign sites.

I lose Sad

I typed in Age of Conan and a lot of threads showed up without an actual topic, but yes, lets start fresh here.

They've been releasing a lot of details about the new class systems here, which brought about my comment about a well balanced class system. Anyone been reading about them?

Is no one as hyped for this as I am?

AFAIK there's not going to be any pvp in this game, which pretty much means that the playerbase is going to consist mostly of sad roleplaying carebear geeks.

in my opinion player vs player action essential in multiplayer games, so i'm a lot more excited about warhammer online.

There will be PvP, but just in some zones. Or you can attack players outside these zones, but then you end up in jail and have to do stuff for the village. Kinda cool imo.

No, a game must have a balance between hardcore and newbie friendly or it'll fail.

I think we all know that no MMORPG will ever get close to the greatness that was Ultima Online before it was Diablofied

but still, this game looks pretty good and I'm pretty sure I'll check it out.

eve-online does it fine.
you can lose months of isk in one day in 0.0 or you can live life as a carebear in police controlled space but wardecs against another corp (guild) are allowed for a fee

carebear pvp sucks theres no adrenaline rush and it gets boring fighting for nothing

I play MM's for PVP and to my understanding there WILL be pvp in age of conan.

In fact, taken directly from the FAQ...

Will there be PvP options?

Yes PvP, or Player versus Player will be a central part of the gameplay in Age of Conan, and we are truly focusing on this part of the game to make fun, brutal, action filled and fair. There will be three main forms of PvP:

Drunken brawling is a hilarious, unique and very “Conanesque” PvP form where every player, regardless of their level, can fight it out in the bars and taverns of the world. Your fighting ability here depends on how much you drink, and what you drinkJ The more you drink the more pain you are able to endure, but the less chance you have of hitting!

PvP mini-games is a selection of mini-games, like Last man standing, King of the Hill and so forth (as you know from FPS games), but with a unique Conan twist, of course. These fights will take place in areas of the world dedicated or designed for PvP combat. To level out the fact that many friends have different abilities and levels, we also have a PvP-leveling system where we have divided the 80 levels into 4 PvP tiers, where you will be auto-leveled up to the max level of that tier during the PvP fight.

Massive epic battles – This is the ultimate large-scale PvP form where guilds and coalitions of players can build their own cities in the border kingdoms, and fight it out in massive battles. Just think of it! Engines of war, mounted warriors charging on horses and camels, formations of players struggling for every inch of land, tearing down walls or breaking through the formations of the enemy!

... Quit smokin crack, it seems like fun PVP to me Razz

Games are a changing, the days of shadowbane seem to be fleeting to appease a larger fanbase. Seems pretty awesome to me.

Warhammer does intrigue me though, post on the thread or start one so I can post my comments Razz

"Such a big world could make interaction with others a problem, but Godager said servers will be engineered to handle upwards of 2000 or 2500 players simultaneously. That should enable city centers to hum with activity, and plenty of opportunity for players to interact passively or aggressively. Though it hasn’t been finalized, Funcom expects a regional server structure to be employed to minimize lag, so you probably won’t meet up with European players—and maybe not even those on the other coast of the United States—but the game designers will have to see once the servers are populated in beta testing."

Very nice IMO.

Agree. I've said it a bunch, FunCom has experience. Whether you liked AO or not, it still gave them lots of ideas for their next game.

Of course, Turbine with AC2 and now LOTR:O haven't learned, but its a completely different development team.

Anyway, we'll see what the future has in store.

Though the combat system is not really that inventive at all. It's like the 'Neocron' combat system.
Most if not ALL attacks/hits are determined by the dice, and not collision detection.

This is the truth!
