PostPosted: Fri, 5th Feb 2021 06:00    Post subject: [OTHER] Switch boot.dat error
Every time I turn it on I get a boot.dat error, specifically this:

 Spoiler:

I tried using a different SD card, I formatted it in multiple ways, everything's there that needs to be there.

I figured the reader might be broken and so I replaced it with a new one, it worked for about 2 days and then it's back to that boot.dat error

Any other idea of what might be causing this? I can't get past the error so it's unusable

Your switch sd reader is bonkers.
Clean it. Get some canned air, rubbing alcohol, and clean that sucker.

The error is pretty much cant find boot file.
What id do is moment you have it it working, download sd card checker from homebrew to see if it the cards aren't corrupt or if the sd reader is kaput.

But if all files are where they should be and sd card is fine by your deductions. Then last thing is the sd reader on the switch. Clean it.

Its the card reader/card.

Launch it in ofw play a game, if you own a legit one, take a bunch of screenshots and see what happens.
Or even take screenshots of the menu to write onto the card. Troubleshoots.

Your boot could be corrupt.
But you changed cards and changed boots.
Dunno why you'd replace the switch sd card reader.
Seems like too much when basic troubleshooting could sort your shit out. You may even have to reformat the switch as last course of action.

Doesn’t make much sense that your card works on ofw but not cfw.

Really weird then it means your card reader works.

Not sure why you wanna save your save data (it is on your internal storage = eMMC) but you can’t launch any payload that mounts it without putting extra files on your actual sd card.

Did you try another cfw / payload ? Curious cuz you say that ofw can read it

Yeah honestly it seems your connector is damaged somehow :/

I wonder though if there are some way to have the CFW files loaded from the internal eMMC or USB as a workaround (better than nothing)... Doubt it but might be worth some googling, specially since atmosphere is open source

Update to latest ofw.
Its still modable.

Or try to find an older boot file for your cfw/ofw.
Could be that you got latest shit and it may not be compatible. As lol as it sounds. Who knows.

maybe try to remove the battery

could be hekate

Copy&Pasta stuff from other site:

Quote:

now there are differences ...all the sd readers that dont work all have circle holes in the silver part where the sd card fits.. the original does not..
the readers that dont work (oem ones found on ebay amazon aliexpress etc...) all have the same numbers printed on the circuit...HAC-SD-01 CA HF

also!! all the sd card readers with holes in- the new ones (CA HF) << they do actually seemingly work fine in official firmware and it doesnt seem to matter weather its exfat or fat32! its only a problem when trying to boot into sxos

Try to dump your i2c registers to find a difference like this guy did:

Quote:

Have any of u tried maintenance mode factory reset? Prolly will delete all saves and such but may make it work again.

To access Maintenance Mode, turn your Switch off by holding down the Power button on top of the console, then choosing “Power Options,” then “Turn Off.” Once the Switch is completely turned off, hold both the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons, as well as the Power button. Keep holding them down while you see the “Nintendo” and “Switch” logos appear on the screen, until you see the “Maintenance Mode” menu appear. From there, you have a few options for how to fix up your Switch.

I don't understand why people don't update to latest fw thats supported by their cfw.

Best bet would be to try older boot files for when your current fw was available.

I didnt know 11.0.1 came out.
Tx most likely stops supporting older fw to push people to update. So see if you can find an older boot file. Don't go beta since they're mostly for current modable fws.

But even if you update to 11.0.1 atmosphere I believe works.

I just checked im on 11.0.0.

Sure its not a chip problem? the SD card reader may be fine. But the chip controlling the SD card might be fubared.

You tried this fix (not sure if its firmware/software related)?
Dont know shit about switches.

Not running in full memory access? This error screen like yours, same error and backtrace address:
