Can't for the life of me remember the name of this game but it was on the spectrum system maybe or round about that era, it might of been late 80's?
It was a war game, where you had to recruit units and i was on some old castle what i had to defend.
Any ideas that's about all i can remember of it.
Yes i am getting old lol.

It does indeed sound like DOTC. I thought it was Amiga-exclusive but wiki tells me it got ported to a lot of systems - including Spectrum.

Another guess: Rings of Medusa?

dotc is the only thing that i remember that comes close to that description (and as pillermann already said -> it was available on almost every system).

think you have to waste an evening to crawl through complete abandonware databases (like homeoftheunderdogs), maybe you are lucky

That looks like the predecessor to the HOMM/Kings Bounty series. Very Happy

There are similarities in tactical battles, but on strategy layer Celtic Legends is more of puzzle / chess game. If you don't capture key locations in just a couple of turns from the beginning of the game you will most definitely lose the given map.

Tactical battles are full of sadomasochistic fun with perma stats and spells lost spells Crying or Very sad Laughing

Game is brutally hard by current standards Laughing
