So I did a Google search for previous 12 months for 'PC Games with good endings' - and I found nothing. Nada. Worst endings, sure, loads of those. But nothing for Good endings.

I found that slightly odd. I know as a whole, the internet likes to bitch and moan about the bad things, but surely people would write about good things too?

So here's the thing; without ruining it for everyone, what games have you played with a pretty good ending, one that makes you think 'yeah, that was worth the effort'.

So not Mass Effect 3.

As a matter of fact, the ending for Modern Warfare (I think) is not that bad.

However, the award for best ending in a video game goes to: Planescape: Torment.

Now you can close this thread.

It may have been a bit convoluted but I was impressed by the ending in Bioshock: Infinite. But it is a matter of taste certainly. I was completely blow away by that games story anyway. Very Happy

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Right now only two come to mind, even though I'm sure I should be able to name at least a few more... anyway:
Bioshock: Infinity
DA1

@couleur: Yeah, glad I'm not the only one. I don't think I've ever been as fascinated by a game story in my life, ever – it's not just that the story itself was good, but I also liked the way the story was told.

Best ending in a PC game ever?

Def. Mass Effect 3. So many endings, such a great explanation. Overall, just top class.

Well I think it has to do with: You remember a game for its good story not for a good ending (most of the times, ofcourse there are exceptions).
If the ending is good (or even: mediocre) the overal story/game will be remembered as good. A bad ending can make a good story bad or even the game bad, so I think it's natural you find posts on 'bad endings' rather easily. It has more impact.

I hardly remember anything for a good ending (Bioshock infinite was the one thing popping in my mind), but it be easier for me to think of games with a good story.

Edit: I could/should have wrote it in a better way... but tough weekend. Slept about 8 hours in total since Friday. (F1 in China to blame )

Definitely, was about to mention it. When it comes to the narrative and especially its conclusion, Mafia is an "experience" that leaves a mark on you Smile

In addition to all those that have been mentioned already (they all get a +1 from me Very Happy) I'll say BG2: Throne of Bhaal, Max Payne 1/2, MGS3, Portal 2, KotOR.

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines had a pretty good one too. Even though the last 30% of the game felt rushed and unpolished, the actual conclusion to the story was clever and possibly quite hillarious, depending on your choices. It also fit the setting very well.

Dark ending of Kotor 1 was quite cool. First Dead Space too. Dark Messiah. MGS (more than one of them). Torment, BG2 and even Icewind Dale - despite having a mediocre story througout the game, the ending was actually surprisingly cool Very Happy

Many such games, to be honest.

Recently I thought dragons dogma had a good ending. The true ending that is.
Thought it was awesome how it kind of explains all the videogamey things with a kind of internal logic (EG. why everything respawns and how your character is different from other npc's)

Never understood the point of having multiple endings and one true ending in games that takes a age and a half to finish.

Two for me, though both have already been mentioned.

Corrupting a certain someone in the original Knights of the Old Republic and seeing it all come to fruition. Man, that was delightfully delicious. Don't think I've ever had anything come close to that in terms of how I felt afterwards.

And Mafia. In hindsight I should have seen it coming, but damn! Very Happy

The original Fallout games.
Bastion.
And finishing GTA 5 with the Deathwish ending was quite satisfying. Maybe not the mission itself, but the ending. A short nice dialogue, followed by listening to the music and feeling satisfied by the journey.
