I wouldn't call S1 cartoonish at all, but if you found it like that, then S2 is even more cartoonish.
The Punisher stuff is only a subplot while the main plot has to do with some goofy ninja shit. I hated that shit in S1 and they put in even more of that in the second

I've been watching DD's second season as well (not without struggling ), and I like Bernthal's rendition, but I feel that the satisfying combat scenes are contributing more than the character himself. (with Fisk being *the* best and most charismatic individual, hands down really)
I agree with Shocktrooper, Jane for me is unrivaled, he has a special place in my heart when it comes to the Punisher and the new one doesn't quite reach those heights (while still being better than I expected). I hope though that the writing will be decent enough here to properly sustain the action parts and give us something meaningful to look forward to. *anxiously scratches head*

I was very skeptical about him being the Punisher but my god did he deliver. Like everyone else has said too, the best parts in DD have been with Fisk and the Punisher really.
