lol ... not exactly assraped ... it was 5-4, although Sweden did play much stronger. I haven't been that impressed with how Canada has been playing. The rust from not playing an NHL season this year is showing...
I'm pretty sure that with the way the standings worked out, we might be in for another rematch of Canada-Sweden. The Russian and the Czech teams are looking pretty good this year, so who knows what to expect.
The beginning of the tournament has been a little boring, but it looks to be picking up as it's getting into the quarter finals.

U know what I wanna know, what happened to all our star players from the NHL? like, lets get real..thorton, jovanofsky (spelling) and kaberle arent the best guys around. They're decent, but not the best.
I cant lie, I didnt follow the championships that much this year, but when i did catch a game or a period, I didnt see the likes of Sakic, Pronger, Mogilny (i think hes canadian), Bondra, Lemieux (did he retire again?), Iginla (spelling?) etc
Only real big name for Canada was Brodeur and from what i saw, he's the reason we made it to the finals anyway. Even tho i disklike him, he's an amazing goalie.
And is it me, or is International Hockey less hard hitting unless its the US vs Canada (Nhlers)? I know the international leagues perfer more skating and shit, but for real, hockey is a tough mans game. No offence to any swedish or euro ppl, but majority of euro players are pussies when it comes to checking. Sundin has gotten a lil tougher still, but even he's a bitch and he's huge. Not to say the europeans dont check, but not nearly has hard and such as NHLers.
Remember Federov, Yashin, Bure? Great skill when it comes to skating, puck handling and the like but they couldnt take a fuckin shot if they're lives depended on it.
For that reason alone, I think gretzky is a bitch. Great player but a bitch.
I dunno if anyone here is old enough to remember seeing gretzky play for edmonton during the "glory years" and his early years in LA. But if anyone is, remember that guy who played for the leafs? Bill something. His jersey number was #9. It was his like 6th game in the NHL, a few years after gretzky got big, and the leafs were playing the oilers. Gretzky was coming across the blue line with his head down and the guy fuckin smoked him. Clean check and everything, but hurt him good....funny, that was his last game in the NHL, he was released by Toronto the next day...
Same when Gretzky took on Tempo Numinem (spelling?). Only fight ive seen gretzky in and he got his ass kicked, like 2 shots to the head and he was done. It was an LA vs Winnipeg game. Tempo got suspended for a long as time and gretzky got nothing...

Well ... this year many players opted out of the tournament basically because they've been sitting on their fat asses during the NHL lockout and are out of shape and unconditioned.
And Mogilny is Russian btw

Sure hockey outside of NHL is less hardhitting. But let me remind you about this, it is ICEHOCKEY. It's not MMA, BOXING, PRO-WRESTLING etc. The main goal with this sport is to score goals, not to crosschecking someone really hard, or to take a huge shot.
I know it's you're opinion, and that I can't change that, but just wake up. It's a sport, not a fucking toughman-contest.. You're supposed to score goals, not taking hard shots..

well it still can get pretty rough, just not as much fist-fighting. and also nhl-players from other countries were missing this year as well. like sundin and forsberg werent playing for sweden for example.
