Contrary to earlier reports, Crysis Warhead will be released as a standalone sequel in the Fall.
Maximum freedom, maximum explosions and maximum Psycho! Electronic Arts Inc. and award-winning independent studio Crytek today announced Crysis Warhead – the parallel story to Crysis, one of the most critically-acclaimed first person shooters and PC games of 2007. Shipping exclusively for the PC this autumn Crysis Warhead is the first title to be developed at Crytek´s Budapest studio, and is built on a new, enhanced and optimized version of Crytek’s CryENGINE 2 technology.
“We were very pleased with the reception of Crysis from both gamers and media after our launch last year,” said Cevat Yerli, CEO and President of Crytek. “That being said, one of the key principles of our studio is to always raise the bar. With Warhead, we are focusing on refining our storytelling and game performance, while also delivering more of the visually stunning graphics and immersive, free-roaming gameplay everyone loved in Crysis.”
“The best result of a partnership that we can ask for in the EA Partners program is when a world class independent studio like Crytek chooses to continue to work with us,” said David DeMartini, Vice President and Global General Manager, EA Partners. “Crysis was an amazing game and is going to be a blockbuster franchise. We could not be more excited to be working with Crytek to launch another hit with Crysis Warhead this year.”
In Crysis Warhead, players will don the Nanosuit of Sergeant Sykes, also known as ‘Psycho’, one of the most memorable characters from Crysis. More brash and aggressive than his Delta Force squadmate Nomad, players will experience Psycho’s parallel story during the events of the original game, finding that life on the other side of the island is even more intense and explosive than they ever could have imagined. Luckily, Psycho’s Nanosuit is just as capable and he’s equipped with an even bigger arsenal of fully customizable weapons and new vehicles, giving players access to the tools they need to dominate any situation. Aside from this new, exciting single player campaign, Crysis Warhead will also feature new multiplayer content. Stay tuned for more details this summer.

There's no announcement to go with it but the general consensus is expansion, yes. Might I suggest some compelling gameplay to go with those visuals Crytek? A sandbox mode with workable artificial intelligence would be my first choice.

Why do so many think this is an expansion after the shit Crytek spews out about PC games. I really doubt thats the case, it sounds more like a console game that might be ported to the PC and it will most likely be shit.

I don't think it's asking too much, the engine is perfect for a sandbox style combat simulator and the result is a waste of that technology as far as I'm concerned. What's the point in making something like that if all you're going to do is use generic FPS conventions? Doesn't make any sense - and an expansion would be a great way of overturning and doing something a little more ambitious.
Still my comment was hopeful, not expectant - if we see an expansion I agree that it's just going to be a simple update to milk what's left of their PC contingent.

Their latest comments (before this website update) was suggestive of a good reason (beyond poor customer support) for ceasing updates on Crysis. People are just putting two and two together - but I don't know what to think really.

Well they did the first one with the new tech that is over & done with if they are smart they will be a little more inovative and really take full advantage of there own engine. Dont get me wrong I love Crysis as is i've actually beat it 3 times on Delta on my old PC.

crysis is a mindless shooter with nice visuals and doesnt try to be anything more, and i hope this expansion follows suit because thats just what i want and expect from it. the only people that will be dissapointed will be those expecting some kind of in-depth tactical sentient super AI enemies, which is fun, but sometimes i just wanna shoot dudes in the face, move on and not have to spend 30 minutes planing my attack to do so.

how about crytek move away from the same ole island surrounded by water. They could do great if they did they're stuff in a city or something, but no, it's always island tropical with mucho water.

This could well be the console version...
Correcting people since 2007 even if they're not wrong.

Original Crysis had horrible cliff-hanger ending, so this is natural. Island still there, aliens still there and you're already on the way there.

Bah those idiots at Crytek will never learn. When they were talking about the sequel, they weren't talking about fixing the many flaws found in the game. They were talking about how they were making the game look ever prettier. Idiots.

They will get different games. |
Oh, shut up. You don't know jack shit about what Crytek's plans are, so how about you stop acting like you're their press representative, eh?

What's with all this Crysis bitching!? It wasn't that bad, it was pretty good. Yeah it was over-hyped, but what isn't?
This is probably cut and re-molded storyline from the original (stuff that didn't make the rushed release).
