This means it's highly likely it'll be released in US/EU this year.
In case anyone cares.
Personally, I consider ArcheAge the most promising MMO in many, many years. It's literally the only MMO I'm excited about.
It's just been released in Korea - I believe, and I'm hearing some really cool things about it.
I'll gladly provide information, if people are interested. I think I know most of what there is to know about the features and such. So, ask away if you're curious
Last I saw anything about this was a video where players built a house. Any MMO that has free-to-place player housing is well above the general competition in my book.
For now, but Trion Worlds is going to publish it for the west....
I do have faith in Trion doing a good job translating it and such, but i don't see them keeping the people interested after a while, just like with Rift.

But... it's korean?
It's by Korean developers, yeah.
But it's been made with the western audience in mind from the beginning.
I was sceptical at first too, because I tend to dislike asian-developed MMOs, mostly because of aesthetics and the grind.
But things change and evolve. It does have a slightly asian aesthetic - but I'd say it's more western than usual. It's more western in feel than, for instance, Aion.
The basic reason I'm excited about it is that it's the first themepark/sandbox hybrid with a strong emphasis on world PvP.
I've been waiting for a LONG time to play a hybrid like this, because it's been obvious for years that pure sandboxes just won't be developed with AAA production values.
EvE is probably the only truly successful western sandbox today - but it's also very cold and spreadsheety to me. I just can't identify with a ship in space - and I need something more tangible and a world to explore.
Tera was pretty good, for me, at least. I was a huge fan of L2 back in the day and I played for too many years and tbh, besides the real time combat, TERA was in many ways similar. The environment, most notably and the general art style. So if this is closer to L2, that's pretty great in my book. Any word on a beta?

It's from one of the original designers of Lineage

publisher=/=developer, they will sell and market the game.. host servers and all that comes with it.. at most translate the game , they will not develop new content..
There has been talk of "westernizing" the game, but AFAIK - no official statement with details.
Traditionally, western MMOs have been less grindy and more story/quest-driven. If I understand Jake Song's vision correctly - ArcheAge has been designed from the ground up as an "international" MMO - so I doubt that much will change beyond the translation.
I really hope they get some competent people on that part - as well as the voice acting. It can be a bit of an immersion-breaker without it.
But it's supposed to be a pretty damned expensive game, so I guess they have some money to throw at it.

Why not?
Would be stupid if they didn't, because the Asian devs are targeting a whole different audience then here in the west.

That's what they said about Aion too. It's still a massive grind.
So, because of Aion - no other asian developed game will ever have a chance at not being a massive grind?
Think he's just saying that he needs to see it to believe it, korean mmo developers are about as trustworthy as the father of lies, Peter Molyneux, himself.
I probably wouldn't play it myself (MMO's by definition being the timesinks they are) but it'd be great to see someone actually pull off something different and succeed while doing so. The genre sorely needs some innovation.
The fact that I'm excited about it and think it has great potential, does not mean I feel it's a guarenteed miracle.
I don't have that particular prejudice towards Korean developers - but I have a rather powerful scepticism towards all developers in general.
So, when I get excited - it's usually because there's something special about the developers - and I get the feeling Jake Song is such a person.
I could be wrong though.
Anyway, I just thought I'd point the game out to anyone potentially interested. If I hadn't already known about it - I would be ecstatic to learn that a game with this feature-list is close to release
damn been waiting a long time to hear this news. As OP said THE mmo to look forward too.
its pretty much post-trammel UO in 3d from what ive seen. Freeform housing, procedural crafting(you make a boat, you make the wood, then basehull, then add parts etc, theres this 40 minute beta video out there with crafting and boating footage its in there)
its zomgwowsors, really hope they can deliver, but from ive see from beta its pretty damn good

because devs are already targeting international audience and i d dont know single Asian mmo that been developed for west by publishers.. there might be minor changes.. such as less exp needed, different f2p model and small things like that.. never there were different content from original game
That's JP version of the game..Not a lot of gold bots in Korea because people have to burn their ID number to make an account.
dont be silly now.. I logged into a fresh new server even on ffxiv EU and the first thing i saw on it was two gold sellers spaming email addys and all that buy cheap shit.
In any eastern made mmo you will have this scum and villany
