Hitman studio IO Interactive working on new IP using Unreal Engine

Quote:
Hitman developer IO Interactive is working on an unannounced new IP using Unreal Engine, according to a recent job listing.

The Denmark-based studio is seeking a gameplay programmer to “work closely with a small team of designers to prototype gameplay mechanics in Unreal Engine,” who must have “solid experience with AI, physics, animation and game mechanics for AAA games and experience from projects on current gen consoles and PC,” and “possess profound skills in C++ and have experience with Unreal Engine.”

IO Interactive’s most recent release was its episodic Hitman released throughout 2016 and in a Hitman: The Complete First Season retail package late January. Prior to that, the company released Hitman: Absolution in 2012. Its most recent new IP was Mini Ninjas in 2009, and before that Kane & Lynch in 2007.

Thanks, NeoGAF.

Who could have thought that "using UE" part would be a sign of a potentially not optimized game. Laughing I mean..after UE3 triumphant conquest of the gaming industry in terms of performance\visuals. The times we live in...

@tonizito

It's not just coz it's episodic...Instead of creating more diverse levels and missions with a coherent and gripping story they decided to choose the easy way and fill existing few levels with "challenges" and stuff.

It's not like Hitman was ever about story.

For me it was great. Like with Blood Money, there is a narrative to justify the game's action but doesn't interfere much with the gameplay. The game is about being an assassin, not about the drama around it and the episodic release worked great with this. Due to the undeveloped story, the anthology-like episodes allowed players to focus on the important aspect, the gameplay, instead of rushing through an extremely detailed game just to reach the finish line.
Hitman 2016 lives up to Blood Money's legacy and it's probably an even better game despite the publisher forcing the hand with a questionable business model (limited time content, always online).

Absolution was a financial success, but a lamentably bad Hitman game. The fact that IO Interactive was able to realize this and changed the formula to appease the series fans is a plus in my books. There are some talented people at IO and I'm quite curious what they are going for now.
