Summary

Lords of Xulima is an isometric, turn-based, single-player 2D role-playing game. It is set in a mythical lost continent called Xulima where the world makers lived in ancient times. The game features a challenging vast world where you will have to command and create a six characters party in an epic story between gods and men

Features

Create your party with up to six characters, choosing between 10 classes and more than 100 unique skills.
Strategic turn-based combat in first person view.
A vast continent to explore, with different environments and climates. You are free to go everywhere from the beginning (but be careful where you go because the lands of Xulima are extremely dangerous).
Castles, towers and temples await you to discover their secrets.
Inspired by the old-school classics, featuring a challenging gameplay, with riddles and lethal encounters.
Charming hand-drawn 2D graphics for landscapes and maps, mixed with 3D pre-rendered animations for creatures and monsters.

Strategic turn-based combat

Fast and dynamic combat system in a turn-based environment.
Queue of actions: where the positions of the combatants depend on their speed. A very fast combatant can hit you many times before you can react. Different attacks like strong hits with stunning weapons or some spells can modify the speed and the order of the queue.
Place your characters on the combat grid with two rows and four columns. Characters on the back row can only attack with special weapons but at the same time they are protected by the characters on the front row. You can also change the positions during combat.
18 different classes of weapons, each one with its own properties: damaging, stunning, bleeding, wounding, ranged…
20 qualities for each class of weapon.
More than 100 types of enchantments that provide different powers to the weapons (vampirism, poisoning, …).
Combine the weapons with special combat movements that every class can develop.

Who we are?

Numantian Games is a small independent group of video game developers. It is located in Spain, but we count on different professional in several countries. We love classic role-playing games like Ultima and Might and Magic series. We really wanted to capture the magic and the charm of old-school games, while adding innovating gameplay mechanisms such as modern graphics and user interface. We are specialized in 2D graphics, but we are using the 3D capacities of the current graphics cards in order to create the most beautiful and detailed graphics.

Lol yeah compared to Grimoire everything looks good Very Happy but this rly looks good for a indy rpg, compared to Eschalon or Spiderweb games for example.
The only thing bothering me is the walking animation it looks really slow, in general animations seem to need some work.

At first I was like Meh, another indie game with retro style stuff...then I saw Grimoire, WOW this game looks nice!

Maybe Grimoire was a game that made people feel like shit and then notice all other games with a clear vision Reaction

I think it's just a beta version and they'll speed up the movement a bit. At least I hope so.

seems like proper Rpg' have now become permanently confined to indie releases.

that is how retarded the average consumer is, that only pocket change is an acceptable risk for developing an RPG.
but at least now we get a ton of them with crap graphics but buckets of rpg meat, instead of a couple with epic graphics and RPG crumbs Laughing

This reminds me of the old Wizardry games as far as combat goes. I like it. It looks like a good mix actually.

Will pick this up for sure if/when it comes out.

I hope this game will deliver, the graphics are awfull though. The animations of that main character, use of perspective, size of building and textures/landscapes, all terrible. It does ad to an oldskool feel though.
I don't mind about graphics, the weird thing is though that the devs released a tech demo to show of their engine, I hope the overall quality of the game is better then the engine, but i have some doubts.

It looks a little bit like Divine Divinity (in terms of graphics). Smile

Not really. DD has a much more gritty look. It looks more like Sacred to me. If anything, it looks like DD with the art style of D:OS, I guess. Smile

A new game that looks pretty much like an HD version of DD is Inquisitor actually.

The game looks really good but Indiegogo is almost a guarantee of failure especially for such an "unknown" title. I hope I'm wrong though. Razz

WTF

http://www.lordsofxulima.com/2013/08/15/crowfunding-for-lords-of-xulima

"So… Why Crowdfunding?

Basically, there are three optional features that we’re not certain if we’re going to be able to include because of their costs.

Lords of Xulima is our first production and even though for us it’s the ideal role-playing game into which we’ve put all of our passion and thousands of hours of work, we really don’t know how it will do commercially."

Okay, they add some extra stuff with crowdfunding. But seriously, they state they can make the game, but want the money BEFORE the release, just cause they are not sure that it will make a profit. So what changed since februari, game not good enough?
