Code: HARDCORE is a mech-themed 2D platformer. With action-packed shooting, highly polished animations, driving multiple unique awesome mechs to fly in the air, play your own style based on a fluent set of controls.
“The game itself is a classic platformer shooting game. The controls are similar to Metal Slug or Contra. It’s a mecha themed game, combined with mecha in different styles, filled with every element mecha fans like. You operate the mecha fully by your own. The control is tight and you can freely soar through the sky. Everyone can play with their own unique style too. The game features fluid 2D animations. Not only pretty and awesome, but also they contain many special techniques in regards to 2D animation.”
The visual style that Code:HARDCORE has is also very reminiscent of the super deformed approach used in Super Robot Wars. Unsurprisingly, the Super Robot Wars games have had a big role in shaping the overall aesthetic for this game.
“So the Gundam Versus franchise gives us some inspirations on control layout but actually there are many differences between Gundam Versus and Code: HARDCORE. In that, our focus is more on “free” and “manual”. Players do not only stare at their enemy but also control shooting and movement by themselves. The possibilities are infinite. We think this is what every mecha fan really wants. Players should deal with situations in the battlefield, apply their own tactics and combat skills but not press one key to perform those fixed movements. Maybe Titanfall also gave us inspiration to make us want to do pilot evacuation functionality.”
As for the future of Code:HARDCORE and its eventual release, Louiky was happy to talk about that, “We hope to make this game the top 2D mecha action game, featuring rich content, mecha and interesting designs. We want to carefully polish the game to bring high quality content to mecha fans. We also want to make models, manga, and even anime to make Code: HARDCORE a rich franchise.”
“We will release the game on Steam by default. But if any publisher contacts us, we are happy to also release on platforms like PS4 or Xbox One.”
That dev dude in the red shirt looks like a little boy, but has a pretty deep voice. Nice.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
