Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

Quote:
Rooted in the classic graphic novel series, Valerian and Laureline- visionary writer/director Luc Besson advances this iconic source material into a contemporary, unique and epic science fiction saga. Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are special operatives for the government of the human territories charged with maintaining order throughout the universe. Valerian has more in mind than a professional relationship with his partner- blatantly chasing after her with propositions of romance. But his extensive history with women, and her traditional values, drive Laureline to continuously rebuff him. Under directive from their Commander (Clive Owen), Valerian and Laureline embark on a mission to the breathtaking intergalactic city of Alpha, an ever-expanding metropolis comprised of thousands of different species from all four corners of the universe. Alpha's seventeen million inhabitants have converged over time- uniting their talents, technology and resources for the betterment of all. Unfortunately, not everyone on Alpha shares in these same objectives; in fact, unseen forces are at work, placing our race in great danger.

The first part of this synopsis is horrible Rolling Eyes

Trailor:

Trailer looks good, the heroes look awful, I liked the comics so let us see what Besson cooks up after his best work of art - Lucy!

Luc Besson making a space opera. 20 years ago we would all be So Much Win ing. Today... we are kind of skeptical.

Anyway space opera = I'm interested.

TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."

Yup, widely known as Cunty Mccuntface.

Carla delevingne or something. Spelling could be wrong, I just assumed it spelled the same as my Bio teacher from highschool

She reminds me of Dybala Poker Face Laughing
It's a shame that the protagonists are so unlikable, because otherwise I would be somewhat intrigued, despite..everything. Looks like they're targeting the teenage audience as per usual with blockbusters these days.

Reminded me of a Guardians of the Galaxy type of movie; and the trailer music helped kill any expectations right from the start.

Almost. "The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec" is post-Taken, he both wrote and directed it (unlike Taken, which he only wrote) and I think it's pretty fun!

+1 Le Grand Bleu, Nikita, Leon (The Professional) and it probably stopped being good after The Fifth Element almost 2 decades ago.

This makes Jupiter Ascending feel tame. I'm super in for such a visually impressive space opera as seen in this trailer no matter how janky some of its aspect might be. Me Gusta

So many shots looking like ME, especially the humanoids' suits.

And protagonists looking like heroin junkies out of Trainspotting Smile

It may be an elaborate ruse but that trailer was indeed more interesting and evocative than I expected. Razz
Still not a fan of the young'uns and who knows what modern Luc 2.0 (or well, 0.2) has really in store for us, though it looks like it's worth preordering a mkvdemo.

I still don't like the main casting in it.
And men, people in the comments on YT (I know, I know) think it's an unoriginal rip off

Quite a late reply Laughing but Luc Besson was the director of that film as well.
