Codemasters is making a Micro Machines-style racer called Toybox Turbos.
The 90s retro-style game is due out in from November 12 on Windows PC via Steam priced £11.99, and is "coming soon" to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 as a download from the Xbox Games Store and PlayStation Network.
Toybox Turbos includes 18 circuits inspired by childhood locations, Codemasters said, such as a kitchen table, a school table and a railway set.
There's four-player local and online multiplayer, and 35 vehicles, such as sports cars, dragsters, taxis, ice cream vans, milk floats and moon buggies.
Gameplay footage is below.

What was the game like this from the 90s anyway? It looks really familiar. On N64 or SNES or something
Hell, Micro Machines was on pretty much every platform out there. I can't think of any major one it wasn't C64/Spectrum/Amstrad/DOS/Amiga/AtariST/NES/MS and then onwards to the SNES/MD/N64/PS1 generation too.

I remember playing it on Megadrive/Genesis. Wasn't it a top down view?
Why don't they call it "micro machines toybox" or something, just seems silly giving it a different name when it clearly is micro machines heh
Branding, it's obviously the same game.. but they don't have the rights to use the name (or the rights holder hasn't paid them any advertising fee to use it )
I actually have no idea what Micro Machines is, but this reminds me of Ignition, which I used to play like crazy in splitscreen with one of my cousins when we were kiddos. This might be cool, but it's Codemasters so it'll probably play itself, whilst still bombarding you with tutorial pop-ups.
Micro Machines were (are they still around?) a brand of tiny toy car back in the 80s and 90s. I even still have one (although not sure if it is real or a knock-off):
The good old days. Copied it on a floppy disk, went into the school library, attached the game controller into the sound card and started gaming like mad (for 15 minutes) If I remember right we were 3 people on the keyboard, which was very shitty when people pushed too many buttons at a time

boop! boop! boop! boop!
Oh yes, the awesome speaker "boop!" when too many keys were pushed simultaneously
I'm pretty sure, that if you implement a top-down visual on their supposedly 'serious' games of late, the final result doesn't differ too much from this one. That's the perk of not using a physics engine!
Could be fun. Sadly though with Codemasters involved a free-for-all (literally) with all the Humpers won't be doable.
Featuring gameplay that reflects Codemasters’ fondly remembered miniature racing titles of the ‘90s, Toybox Turbos delivers a pick-up-and-play arcade racing extravaganza as gamers take a nostalgic tour of 18 obstacle and short-cut filled circuits inspired by childhood locations.
Players will speed past spilt sticky jam on the kitchen table, dodge flaming Bunsen burners as they take their opponents back to school and zip past the runaway train in races around a railway set and more. Gamers can see Toybox Turbos in action in a new gameplay video which is now playing at www.toyboxturbos.com.
Bursting with classic retro racing fun, Toybox Turbos includes four-player local and online multiplayer options, perfect for turning friends into foes with one-more-go gaming sessions that race into the night. Whether playing locally or online, or with a mix, Toybox Turbos brings alive the glory days of multiplayer score-settling competition with rapid-fire rounds designed for all-action racing.
Toybox Turbos features 35 vehicles to collect and customise, ranging from sports cars and dragsters to emergency vehicles, taxis, ice cream vans, construction vehicles, milk float, moon buggies and more.
Toybox Turbos will feature six super-charged game modes; players sprint for the line in Classic Races, set their best time in Time Trial, pass as many turbocharged toys as possible in Overtake, avoid getting wiped out by the tide in Escape, beat the clock in Countdown and take down bosses in Elimination mode.
To gain the advantage, gamers can collect and use a range of power-ups spread liberally around each circuit, including, but not limited to, machine guns, mines, electronic pulses and, of course, giant hammers.
