Going to try Martian, Lucy and The Revenant. All around 20gb (seems small).
There seems to be mention to MADVR and some stuff, but what about us that actually use a 4K/HDR tv? Just put on HDR mode, calibrate that and watch? Or are there other tricks?
When i use HDR content my tv automatically switches mode, but i don`t think it will trigger like that from opening a file in VLC.

HEVC is very heavy
have to test some encodes on a smart tv rather than the office pc. Gots to have the hardware that can decode it.

As far as I know these rips are hdmi captures with a high end card such as the Blackmagic DeckLink 4K Extreme 12G ($ 1,500) then the raw capture is converted to BT.2020 colorspace with Adobe After Effects then encoded with x265 (hevc).
Actually Life of Pi, Lucy and recently Sully are the best "rips" so far. Previous releases had bad grain on dark areas but seems they have found the culprit as those releases above are perfect. I watch them on my Samsung KS7000 (built-in mediaplayer) and a TV goes into HDR mode and the picture is amazing.

I mean.... do HDR releases have to be 4k?.... I am still fine with 720p to say the truth. More res is not worth the size I sit from TV.
But hdr is amazing. I do not have capable TV and I do not plan on getting one... Are they going to do HDR(that means OLED right?) monitors?

HDR itself has no demands on resolution, but currently adopted standards do include UHD as part of the package, so source material is likely to be 4K.
That said, there are 1080p HDR TVs, so we might see downsampled releases once HDR content becomes more widespread. Though, right now even "plain" UHD content seems somewhat limited in availability, so who knows when that will happen.

hey, nice thread...
@KillerCrocker
i feel you man, im despereate for 720p or 1080p HDR Releases. i dont need 4k..Also my system isnt strong enough for 4k and madvr.. haha...
Since theres a little talk about madvr in here, some infos that might help some of you
You can watch HDR movies on your NON HDR Monitor or TV via MadVR (compressing the color space) and its working beautifully..
Only thing that u need is an performant mid range gfx and the LAV Filters installed. (LAV will read and pass on teh HDR Signal..)
And for the People that are fortunate enough to own a HDR monitor or TV, theres an option in MadVR, where you can passtrough the HDR signal (untouched) to your HDR capable monitor.
So in any matter, everyone can enjoy HDR contend...
Oh, here some examples:
Original HDR samples
Left=With MadVR compressed HDR to my non HDR monitor, Right=what it would look like without the compression from madVR.
Use MadVR..WHat else would you use anywaY?
wanna know more about MadVR?

edit:
i got a question for yall...
Does anyone know if it is possible right now to reencode or convert/resize the 4k HDR movies to, lets say 720 or 1080p and keep the correct HDR color space so its also present in the 1080p or 720p rip then..?!?!?!1!
i tried it once, took me allmost a whole day, but the HDR wasnt there
so maybe someone allready fiddled with that.

Yes there is. It stil has to be .265
You can change the res to make it small as you want.
Read the source file to see the specs they used.
Copy then and just change the res.

haha, i converted to h264 lol.. my bad..
Of course h265, damnit.. also thats fine HEVC in "normal Resolutions" run fine, here on my PC. same as h264 in gpu utilization...Thanks to LAV you can hardware decode h265 even doe your gfx (gtx670) doesnt really support it haha..
Thanks a lot for pointing out that it HAS TO BE h265..

Landlordmonkey wrote: | So maybe you've all seen it now there are UltraHDClub HDR releases with 10bit that come very very close to the original UHD Blurays No need for a crack more or less but the russians are too slow and picky.
We'd need more people with their knowledge and hardware for the big stuff nonstop. But its getting close |
They can get real close if they up the bitrate.
People don't really care for file sizes anymore.

Yes ofc Planet Earth 2 UHD Bluray is out now. Maybe UltraHDClub will give it to us in about 2 to 3 weeks. Thats the usual time that goes by while they are working on the show.
