TIL! If you plug headphones in the wireless controller, a new audio device pops up in Windows 10. It's not bad quality actually, and can push my HD 6XX (300 ohm) headphones pretty well. Surely well enough for late night plays when the PC is connected to the TV and I don't have the AMP & DAC there.

Very nice, and how the fuck is this the first time I am seeing anything about it?

With the dongle. That's how I figured to try. I saw MS is selling a slimmer dongle that advertises stereo audio. So I figured let's try on my older one, to see if it works. It works!

Better than Sony's offering, that's for damned sure Sad I routinely use headphones on my Dualshock 4 when playing on the PS4 (so I don't disturb wifey or something Very Happy) but the DS4 doesn't have the same functionality on PC.... UNLESS!! You buy Sony's overpriced "official DS4 dongle" >_>_>_>_>_>

I got the dongle with my Rift. I bought it in a time when their derptrollers were not ready, so they were including a Xcox One derptroller and a dongle.

But things with the Xbox One controller are so much better than the 360, where almost nothing worked. I see now that the tiny keyboards that can plug into the Retardtroller, and it works like a normal keyboard in Windows! My old htpc tiny bluetooth keyboard is failing, so I will just use one of my spare Twatrollers with the "chatpad" and have full control of Windows. Pretty nice.

The Xbone controller is lovely and, yeah, a definitely improvement over the 360 one -- especially the dpad! The dpad on the 360 controller is atrocious, so bad that I actually trained myself to use the analogue stick in fighting games Laughing My hangup with the Xbone controller is that the dpad CLICKS... quite audibly too... so yeah :\ I still prefer my DS4 overall the built in trackpad is really nice as it registers as a mouse -- and, as you say, like the Xbone it comes with a keyboard attachment too \o/

I once did the "Pringles mod" where you cut a circle from the Pringles cap, and put it under the dpad rubber. It didn't help but was funny enough. Laughing

Yeah, buttons are loud. I have Elite and Elite 2 now, and both are loud buttons. But the sticks and triggers are so much better than normal ones and PS4 controllers. But at least they changed the Pussy4 sticks to be somewhat concave. Those Pussy3 convex ones were so terrible, especially after a long sweaty and steamy session. The PS4 are much better, but still not as grippy as the Xcox One controller.

The Switch has the worst sticks.

LOL!! Yeeeeeeup, been there Very Happy Anything to try and fix that god awful "disc" dpad Laughing Also agreed with the sticks, they're much more comfortable like this - and I actually prefer the inline approach to the layout, as opposed to staggered, so liking this layout means I TRULY appreciate that Sony finally widened the gap between the sticks.. no more thumb clack grinhurt

I've used my elder bro's Xbone controller and, aside from the loud dpad, it was really comfortable to use - especially the V2 model with bluetooth and without the need for a dongle.

me neither, but it was even featured before the design change to a standard 3,5mm headphone jack on the controller

tbh for use at the desk not useful, but for couch gaming its perfect

I was tempted to get the DS4 dongle at first, for full native controller support and audio-out functionality, but then I thought "Naw, fuck that. Sony are greedy as all hell" - the prices are stupid high, unreasonably so, especially when I can get "full" functionality simply using free software like InputMapper. All I lose is audio-out oh well.

And no China/Ruska has created a bootleg one? How hard can it be to recreate the software and reverse-engineer the signal? There are many cheap PS-compatible controllers, so the knowledge of the wireless interface is at least somewhat known.

No idea, I certainly haven't seen one around :\ I mean.. you can connect the DS4 to PC using most any bluetooth adaptor (though some are better than others, like the Broadcom 20702) but only the "official" dongle gives audio passthrough and software recognition Neutral
