I couldn't find a thread about this, is there really not one?

Anyway, in case there is none, StarForge is a game that has:
- Infinite procedural terrain
- The world and terrain is also completely modifiable (think Minecraft)
- Outer space! Go from the surface of the planet to space with no loading.
- Nice physics and graphics

And! It's completely free Smile

See this to be convinced:

LOL the download site is most likely being hammered at the moment. I've been getting timeouts constantly. I guess this is the first public build and it just came out (as in the last hour or so)?

Tried it a bit. Release is unoptimised and probably in Alpha stage (can't access their website to read more). They need to work a bit more on their code. There are also issues with the building tools.

On a i5 2500k and a 7850 runs in the 20's in some areas and 40's in others, even on LOW settings.

Not my actually system though. I'm with a 560Ti. And ofc it still runs bad.

I just played it for a bit. Very interesting for an alpha, graphics and physics are nice. Gameplay wise I was only fooling around, testing the different key bindings. I dig some holes in the ground and then I started spawning stuff and sudenly the game went all black mesa on me with random explosions and spawning creatures, monsters, etc. like from another dimension Very Happy

Performance wasn't too good as mentioned above me, but kind of playable at least for testing purposes. I was playing on the "Fantastic" preset and getting 20 fps when action got a bit intense.

Looking forward to see how the game will evolve.

Yeah, this is super, super early stage of development and there's only two people making it, and it's free, so I think it's decent all things considered Smile

Definitely a game I'd love to fund with Kickstarter or similar.

From their forums:

So, within half a day of posting about our demo online, our servers crash, presumably from traffic. And we are receiving complaints about horrible performance, graphical glitches and poor playability. We are also receiving (mostly) very positive comments, and people posting FOR us on reddit. Thanks, guys!

I'm worried that we didn't give a very good first impression with the build; I must admit that some of the quirks of the game make it look like we might not entirely know what we are doing. It's hard to think clearly of what exactly to do next.

Our plans are, over the next couple weeks to basically do nothing but address the complaints of players and make the game playable with almost anyone's computer.

Guess we'll have to wait for a 0.2 release number before trying again. Smile

Looks awesome and 0.2 sounds great. I doubt they have to worry about first impressions though, build might be very slow (haven't tried yet), but when they fix it within a reasonable time I'm sure everyone is very forgiving (and it's free, and alpha) Smile

It's actually pretty good, I've tested the build and the controls are very cool, the performance is utter crap (max or low, same fps), but it was very cool to play. If they can fix performance and add some more gameplay elements this is going to be awesome.

This looks quite cool.
I personally will wait a little bit more before investing since it seems like a too big piece for just two guys to swallow. Well in an optimized way.

Alas, they may get it right eventually. What ever the case tho it will take some time to see proper results.

the movement looks super clunky

edit: NO GO. below 10fps super laggy. Lowest settings 1024x768 even windowes..
This is incredibly unpotimized. Even for alphs Razz

I am really hoping they will be able to resolve it in the future

Same i5 2500k, but with GTX 670 and I get 60fps on Fantastic in 1920X1080.
Crazy game, but I sort of like it. Hydralisk and spider attack not so scary with god mode and a barrage of turrets though:)

Apparently decent mouse control is the hardest thing to do with PC gaming nowadays... Sad

Definitely keeping an eye on this... not really properly playable yet but it seems the basics are in place and it could move forward quite fast now.

This looks really good, but only 2 people developing seems a bit low. Maybe they should go kickstarter, I am sure they could get a decent funding which would give this thing a real chance of surviving.

I agree. Project Zomboid is developed by 3 people as far as I know and it is in pre-beta for almost 1 year now, the last official update was last autumn and people who bought it are getting really impatient. The devs are working non stop on it but they reached a level, where there is some bug that corrupts save files and they cannot locate the reason for more than a month now.
My whole point is that its better to have more people even for small projects.
