Thea: The Awakening is a turn-based strategic survival game steeped in Slavic myth and monstrosity set after an apocalyptic force known only as The Darkness has engulfed the world. There are Strigas and Baba Yagas aplenty, but there are no heroes, no monster slayers, and no great armies capable of banishing them. You have only a few hopeless and starving survivors who are desperately trying to stay alive. You are their last and only true hope!
The game combines turn-based strategic gameplay with the tension and grit of a rogue-like, a captivating story you can uncover through a series of in-game events, and a unique combat system based on a complex card battle game.
The wide range of gameplay features allows you to proceed through the world of Thea the way you prefer. You can choose to stay in your village and build up defenses, or you can go out and explore the world. Conflicts can be resolved through assassination, stealth, diplomacy, hunting, and various other ways depending on the skills your people possess. Fighting is not your only solution to conflict!
Choose your game style and save your people from the Darkness!

It's a fantastic game, already sunk quite a few hours into it. One gripe though, I have to play it in a window as it does not support wide screen res (2560 * 1080). Not that terrible but be nice to play in full screen for the immersion. Not sure if this is coming in a patch or not.
As to the game, it's very unforgiving and needs a few tries to get started (well I did at least).

Thanks for that, I see the latest update still does not address the wide screen issue, it still stretches my screen so that if I wish to press anything my mouse needs to be placed far to the left of the actual object/button I am trying to use.
Until/if they address this ridiculous oversight I won't buy it , unless of course it is about £7.00. I regret buying a wide screen monitor anyway
By the way, can anyone suggest similar games to this? I already have Endless Legends, but I actually prefer this. I like just having one town and concentrating all my (usually failed) efforts on it.
Yeah, nice lil sleeper hit is this one I've upped latest on rin BTW
Thanks Scara (as always)
A nice little gem indeed this game. I didn't think much of it when I watched the trailers/screens, but it has enough depth and is definitely satisfying. Perhaps it's not fully balanced and the UI is a bit funky, but nothing that some patches can't fix, since the core gameplay works very well.
The DLC is free for the people that bought the game (and probably for the future buyers, too)
Also, honorable mention for their attitude:
“These sale figures exceed the initial goal five times over and for a very hardcore and niche debut 4X title, this seems like a considerable success.” said the developers in a press release sent to GameWatcher."
So their initial estimation was of around 12.500 copies, i assume.
Does anyone still play this? Decided to reinstall it today. Anyone know why my villagers just won't have kids? They are all relatively young, I have the cabbage patch . All things are there, this is the first play through I have had where there are no kids. Or at least none have grown up to be adults and you choose what they become. Running out of people

It's money of course and without the dev studio having to make the investment but wasn't the first game successful enough to fund work on a sequel on it's own?
Then again it's not like these are the only devs using Kickstarter to drive sequels, Pillars and Original Sin from Obsidian and Larian for one example of two established developers that have done so and it seems to have worked out well for them.
EDIT: So yeah if it leads to a good sequel and the community base is OK with it I suppose there's no issue with this method as such.
Using backers to essentially see the game published, though some also turn to publishers for various deals in addition which is a bit well what to call it, I guess it depends on whatever closed room deals are made.
(Certainly seems to have affected some games whether it's price hikes, DLC or other changes.)
There are many stories in Thea, what will yours be?
Thea 2: The Shattering- a turn based strategy/4X, RPG, survival game with card game mechanics, set in a dark fantasy world inspired by Slavic mythology and folklore.
I played the latest release on Tuesday and have to say the 13th of May seems really optimistic, but I assume they have still left a lot out that is ready.
