Get excited: You now have another excuse to throw out your TV (if you still have one, that is). Today, YouTube launched a new live-TV service called YouTube TV. And it's pretty major.

Priced at $35 a month (with a one-month free trial that you can cancel anytime), YouTube TV offers live TV from big-time broadcast and cable networks including ABC, CBS, MSNBC, ESPN, AMC, E!, Bravo, and more. It also features a limitless, cloud-based DVR. The service offers six accounts per household (no "borrowing" your mom's password) and you can stream it to your phone, tablet, computer, or actual TV, provided you haven't thrown it out yet.

YouTube's also offering a free Google Chromecast after your first month’s payment, while supplies last. And for an extra fee, you'll be able to add more channels to your service — like Showtime.

For now, it's launching in five U.S. cities: New York, Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, and Philadelphia — with more coming soon. You can sign up here to be notified of when it comes to your area.

I am kinda surprised about the price tag.
I can get digital TV here for less then 10 € a month.
Not that digital TV here offers the same amount of channels/content.

You shouldn't be. America is one giant monopoly when it comes to TV and Internet access. We're forced to pay extortionate prices for sub-par service and selection.

It stands to reason, then, that the people that profit from (and helped get it to) that point won't simply roll over and let Google undercut their prices while offering a superior service.

Well perhaps it's not too cheap, but one has to consider the quality of the service. For instance, every TV program will be introduced ad hoc by your selected youtuber among the many personalities available such as Trisha Paytas, Pewdiepie, Keemstar, and the best pranksters out there, which is already worth the price!

I pay 10€ a month for some 80 channels (most hd) including some listed there so that price sounds ridiculous. And yes that includes streaming to phone, pc, tablet, etc

Google had to give up on their google fibre project, because of Comcast/Time Warner/Verizon etc. So I guess that's their attempt at revenge ^^

Google Fiber is still going on - they're just rolling out at an extremely slow pace in very select markets. Sad

Last I heard they stopped adding new lines and decided to work on a "WAN" version.

And the slow deploy was caused by the Comcast/Time Warner etc. monopoly. Because in order to add new lines to a current system, they need to give their ok each time lol. So when it takes a year or 2 or 3 each time to get the green light, well, that's why almost nobody has google fibre at home Smile

Also, another thing, Youtube itself, unlike what many believe, is in itself not making any money. They're hardly making any profit, if even any at all.
