We all know that it's coming - in one form or another. Post (credible) rumors and news here.

http://www.theverge.com/2016/4/19/11457546/xbox-one-hardware-upgrade-rumors

Quote:
Sources familiar with Microsoft's Xbox plans have revealed to The Verge that the company has been testing a variety of prototype Xbox devices. Some of the prototypes have been tested with upgraded components you'd use to improve the performance of a PC gaming rig. It's not clear if and when Microsoft intends to launch an upgraded Xbox One, but Phil Spencer has already hinted the company will "come out with new hardware capability during a generation" that supports existing and future titles. A new wireless chip could be just a small part of the optional hardware upgrades to the Xbox One that Microsoft is planning.

Practically confirmed semi-officially now: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2016/04/amd-promises-three-new-gaming-processors-coming-soon-is-one-for-xbox/

AMD reported on their earning's call they expect $1.5B in future revenue largely driven because they will be providing 3 SoCs for the "semi-custom business and gaming" sector.

Meaning for now we can assume: Sony (PS4 NEO), Nintendo (NX) and Microsoft (Xbox One+ or however you want to call it).

Finally they say all those products, which they won't name, will launch before the end of 2017.

All he said was that the name 1.5 suggested too much of a small upgrade. He didn't say they won't do it, in fact he was open to the possibility ("If we're going to move forward, I want to move forward in big numbers").

When they reveal the console they will present it as at least 2x more powerful because it will be "4K ready"!

Hell, watch them call it Xbox 4K.

Xbox (1)
Xbox 360 (2)
Xbox One (3)
Xbox (4)K

Why some people considering Bone "1.5" as "new" consoles? it 's done before with PSP-PSPGO with little upgraded hardware,PS4k and Bone 1.5 doesn't seems to me like new consoles,Sony and M$ already "upgraded" thier consoles in the past.

I really think it's doing to much of noise out of it,both are not "new" consoles,it's new Models for current consoles.

I guess neither Microsoft nor Sony were kidding around when they lamented the extended lifespan of the consoles, vowing to change it. Let's be honest, 10 years stuck with the same hardware specifications SUCKED - it sucked for gamers, it sucked for developers and it sucked for the knock-on effect it had on PC technology and progression. 3-5 years between each new console revision? Seems more applicable. SNES came out in 1991, after all, then the N64 in 1996.

Still, it definitely sucks if you spent £400 on an XBONE or PS4 at launch, only to be told 3 years later that they're outdated and XBONE.5 and PS4K is coming out.

Neither Sony nor Microsoft have "upgraded" their consoles in the past - they have *refined* and *die-shrunk* their systems in order to improve heat and power efficiency, or remove hardware exploits (like the TSOP flashable chip on the original Xbox) but the systems have stayed the same. Same spec, same performance, same everything. The only exception being the PSP2k+ which added 32MB of RAM to turn the original 32MB device to 64MB. In fact, I can't even recall a single game that used the extra RAM and none that required it. Again, as far as I can remember. Nintendo have upgraded their hardware between revisions though, with the 3DS vs n3DS, that at least was a full on hardware upgrade with new capabilities and new specifications. But neither Sony nor Microsoft have done that in the past with their previous systems.

These are entirely new SKUs with improved processors, improved graphics units, and improved RAM.

*The difference between an Xbox 1.0 and an Xbox 1.6 is a modified video encoder and stripped back support for VGA.
*The difference between a 360 Xenon and a 360 Jasper is a die-shrink.
*The difference between a PS2 and a PS2 Slim is a die-shrink.
*The difference between a PS3 and a PS3 Slim is a die-shrink.
*The difference between a PS4 and a PS4K is a whole new APU, comprising of an upgraded CPU, an upgraded GPU and upgraded RAM.

The word you're looking for is "revision", not "upgrade" Smile Almost every console on the market has had "revisions" to their hardware, these are full upgrades in the same sense as if you took the CPU and GPU out of your PC, replaced them with newer more powerful versions, then put it all back together again. Same capabilities, improved specifications.

I really dig the idea of revisions. Fuck those long ass generations.

I am also really glad that Sony is trying to push for 1080p/60FPS standard across all games. It's about time.

If you buys games, like you do on PS4/One, then it doesn't matter because everything just works.

It doesn't matter what platform you are,you will always had to "deal" with something, trying to roadblock your way for "isodemos",the key is to be patience and wait for hackers/crackers removing the "blocks".

Most people I know buy consoles for the exclusives. How will you play those on PC?

I think this is a great thing. If they bring back the life cycle to 5 or even 3 years, people will get used to it. Many people are happy to buy a 500 euros phone every year for example. I'm just wondering how devs will handle it. Will it be as simple as "old console 720p/30fps and new console 1080p/60fps"?

I was just kidding, I myself don't have any blocks on any platform, but I see that most people, including you I think, would refuse to buy games with Denuvo as a principle.

Not accurate,I rather Denuvo to get cracked though.

Not accurate for you then but some other nfohump members would definitely refuse to buy games with Denuvo for some reason. Not sure they'd buy games for consoles either though.

I myself don't give a damn as long as the game works fine.

I think that number is quite lower than what you expect. I have quite a bit of regulars of the hump on my Steam friends list and the big majority owns games with Denuvo.

Latest rumor says there are 2 Xboxes coming..

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1223679

Quote:
Did I listen to the same podcast as the rest of you?

He said

1) Xbox streaming stick, similar to a Chromecast
2) Xbox TV similar to a roku/apple TV NOT a XBO slim.
3) Xbox new box, VR enabled, revealed spring 2017, based on new architecture
4) Xbox 1.5, 4k output revealed later this year

5) Xbox interface being worked on as a BPM for PC.

Nirolak's Note: He didn't say the Xbox 2 was 10 TFLOPs, to be clear.

So if Xbox 2 is revealed in Spring 2017 I suppose it releases late 2017?

More: http://kotaku.com/sources-smaller-xbox-one-coming-this-year-more-powerf-1778634446

Xbox 2 will support the Oculus Rift.

Quote:
The 2017 Xbox, which is codenamed Scorpio, will have a more powerful GPU, according to three people familiar with this model, speaking anonymously because they were not authorized to speak about Microsoft’s plans. We hear that it will also be technically capable of supporting the Oculus Rift and that Microsoft is pursuing a partnership with Oculus. As for 2016, sources have told us there’s at least a more compact version coming by year’s end. One source believed it will include a larger 2TB hard drive, double the capacity of the most spacious current model. We’re expecting Microsoft to announce the more compact machine at E3 next month. (Kotaku’s Jason Schreier and Kotaku UK’s Keza MacDonald both independently corroborated this information.)

Also new Xbox every year (or so):

Quote:
In addition, people familiar with Microsoft’s plans have told Keza that the company is moving toward an iterative approach for their consoles, not unlike Apple. Sources say that instead of one hardware revision every five years or so, as has been the case with previous console cycles, Microsoft plans to move towards an incremental model, with more frequent hardware releases and games that are both forwards and backwards compatible across both Windows 10 and different Xbox models.

At this point what's the point of getting a console instead of a PC then ? The price isn't even really an argument, i'd rather pay 400$ every year for a new GPU than a console...

Sounds fishy to me.

If this is really how things are going to be now, my current PS4 is the last console I'll ever own - or at least the last I'll buy during the first 1-2 years after its launch. If I'm going to spend cash on yearly hardware upgrades, I'd rather control what I buy, how much I spend and on what level of quality I'll play my games, instead of investing in a needlessly closed system. Seriously can't see any advantage in having a console in such a case, especially not in times when PCs have very solid and quite numerous exclusives too.
