Posted: Fri, 21st Jul 2017 02:59 Post subject: WTF! Parental control block on an admin account |
|
 |
hey there, i got a hard one to crack here..
I wanted to play a game of SIEGE with my friends today and installed uplay to download the game again, since i changed my hard drives and had a fresh windows install..
Ok, first off, My windows version doesnt come with parental controls, no service existend..
Windows 7 Pro. (srvice disabled and removed when creating the image)
ok, so i wanted to start the game, allready an itching in my trigger finger, and puuuff, this screen comes up:
And im like, WTF!! is dis shiat..i dont even have this service on my machine..
Did uplay change something?
It worked before, and i never ever had this parental control activated or even had it on my system..
I also should mention that im on an ADMIN account, wich acording to microsoft CANT have parental controls enabled, since its an admin account..
Puuuf:
So im fucking confused right now, i cant even comprehend whats going on here.. Does Uplay check the service and if its not THERE it says, well, your fucked, you wont play today..
Right now this is the only game where its happening, i never ever had something like this before..
i even tried to start the game and uplay with admin rights, in the hopes, Uplay and teh game will reconize its running as ADMIN and therefore cant have parental Control, but that was wishfull thinking i guess, since it didnt work..
i searched the Forums and, oh boy, theres stuff you wont believe..
here an quote from the ubishit forums:
Quote: | The Parental Control is in Steam it's part of Family Sharing. Has nothing to do with Uplay or the game. You need to look thru your Steam settings to disable it.
|
ummm, ok, what does steam have to do with it? its an uplay game, steam isnt even running.

It has to be something in the Steam Family Sharing Control settings.
I've never messed with them, but that seems to be what most of the responses say to fix this type of message.
Maybe post your question to Steam support or even just on the Steam general forum.
It is still probably a Steam settings. The game is just starting after the Ubisoft client launches, and that is when the warning displays.
I don't happen to have this particular game in Steam, but I have plenty of others.
The Family settings are found via the View->Settings menu.
|
Oh my fucking goood, an Moderator from ubisoft really diggs hard into this steam thing..
ok, in response someone posted this:
Quote: | I found that the issue relates to the in-built windows parental control. I found however that I was unable to alter my parental control settings as the DLL file it used was corrupt. So I had to find a working wpc.dll and replace the old one. You may have to alter the ownership of the file before it will let you do anything.
The file needs to be placed in the system32 folder inside C:\windows\
After replacing the file you will have to register it.
So click the start and in the run bar type "regsvr32 wpc.dll" it will register it but you may still get an error. Despite the error I still managed to fix the issue I had with Watch_dogs and with Farcry 4. |
well, that sounds about right, BUT, wpc.dll? ummm, i dont have this parental control integrated into my windows, so how do i do this?
Theres no wpc.dll on my system cause, reasons..(service not installed)
ok, im at a loss here, 3 hours searching is enough for my old brain...
if anyone knows something, please reply

windows killed itself (or you did, i get instant cancer looking at the design you use...)
try using the real and hidden administrator account to fix it within that account, open cmd and enter "net user Administrator /active:yes" but dunno if it works with the fucked up parental controls

there only one account. and thats me, the admin..
i also tried what janz suggested with the hidden admin, but same thing.
the thing that bugs me is that "Parental COntrol" isnt on my system. just like the enterprise windows and buisness ones, they come without this parental control, family safety shit..

Group Policy editor perhaps ("gpedit.msc" in the run window.) or perhaps just the command line might work to lift this?

i don't see this parental control service under services.msc, so my guess is you have to delete the .dll and make some registry tweaks to get rid of this service.
and my guess is because you did this uplay can't get either a "it's ok to run the game" or "it's blocked by parents". so they just block it completly right away.
maybe try to get the dll somewhere and move it to the right folder and give it all the rights it needs. maybe it just need the dll and it will work then

its not even windows itself, the popup is from uplay and has nothing to do with the windows internal stuff
maybe start the fucking game directly via the exe with admin rights?

tried that before and theres no "parental control" setting or folder or naming anywhere... non existent..

thats kinda the direction i was thinking, but that would mean, that all windows versions without the parental contrrol feature would have this problem.
in the regestri there is "1" place where it says parental control, but its empty, wich i knew it would..
Ubisoft must have change something, since i played this game , with the EXACT same config and windows settings, before..must have happened in the last 4-5 month i guess, the time i didnt played...

are you shure that it is not form windows, BUT form UPlay? that would go into the direction i was also thinking..Because the service (WPC) is not existent on my system/version.
i did try this also, starting it as admin, so the game clearly knows "im a admin, theres no Parental control here" but, nope, same thing.
Only difference was that it took onger for the Message to appear on screen..
Greetz
EDIT:
ok, thinking about it, someone trusted here, with an windows 7 pro 64bit system, could send me the dll´s i need(wich i will look up after i eat something) and make a screenshot or regestry export from:
Quote: | HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Parental Controls |
since i would have to edit it and add whats not there..
if thats it, i would need to register the dll in the system, restart and see if that fixes/tricks it...
