Played a little bit of it, finished the first level or what it might be called.
You're this (American) astronaut as part of a research project to explore a new planned believed to be rich on life, when the game starts it's established that you've spent 15 years in cryogenic suspension (I think that's the correct word for it.) but something is wrong and the shuttle has crashed with your team being nowhere to be found.
Starts off pretty open ended but you have a oxygen problem early on and have to move in a specific direction (Indicated by what looks like tracks or wheel marks.) to fix that issue, you do this by interacting with little glowing dots on the landscape which triggers your PDA device to record messages either from yourself or logs that you find scattered, but more about that later.
So early on you follow these tracks and it sorta walks you through some simple tutorial platforming from jumping in low gravity to using a jetpack for small boosts to reach higher platforms and such and finally moving objects around.
After following these strange tracks for a few minutes you discover a waterfall and shortly afterwards there's a really out of place metal bed, as you move forward to examine a rockfall begins and you have to ascend the cliffs to reach safe ground.
(Reaching area 2, the town.)
And this is pretty much where I'm at right now in the game, up there I found a book with a clear soviet union logo on it and then power wires, here the guy you controls starts thinking it's all a set-up or faked experiment so it'll be interesting to see how this continues.
(Those power wires led to a small empty town area in a vast open desert landscape where I'm pretty much free to explore, found some stuff so far including a somehow working code locked door which I guess is how I'll move on to area 3 whatever that might be.)
|
EDIT: There's some bits of voice recording though it doesn't quite match the written text, game engine is Unity with the usual launcher having some graphical presets and then you can toggle three more settings in the actual game, some moody musical tones is also playing but otherwise the game is fairly silent.
Visuals are a bit rough but performance seems smooth so far.
Also I guess this game will shortly have the "walking simulator" tag that many other games with this type of gameplay now have on Steam.
EDIT: Some screens.
(Well it's a desert planet, communists had a interest in some form of green power found here - no idea how they reached this planet though - wonder what that's about.)

Nice little game, some very impressive and atmospheric scenes and a chilling sound track. Game play is more or less a simple jumper with a few easy puzzles but overall absolutely worth the 4 hours. Much respect for that one man studio who did it!

Custom trigger for this game?
Really? That's rather pathetic. If there was something to protect, meh.

RELEASE NOTES
While seeking life on a distant planet, an astronaut discovers an
abandoned Russian town. He suspects his mission is a hoax until a
mysterious young woman saves him from a strange and deadly phenomenon.
Lifeless Planet is a third-person action-adventure that features an
old-school sci-fi story and spectacular environments in the spirit of
classic action-adventures.
After a hard landing on the planet, the astronaut discovers the planet
that was reported to be rich with life is instead a barren wasteland.
When he goes searching for his crew, he makes a more startling
discovery: evidence that humans have already been to this planet years
ago When he comes upon a deserted Soviet-era Russian town, he struggles
to make sense of his mission. Did his light-speed travel to the planet
send him back in time? Or is this all some strange Cold War hoax?
Along the way, the astronaut meets a Russian woman, Aelita, who is
somehow able to survive the hostile atmosphere of the planet. Through
an unusual natural phenomenon, her skin causes the soil to glow green
under her feet. The player must use these glowing tracks as a guide
across the planet past treacherous and deadly threats. Is she leading
him to safety... or an untimely death?
Lifeless Planet was inspired by Cold War era science fiction stories,
posing questions about humankind's desire for space travel. What if
you journeyed across the galaxy to another planet, only to find humans
had already been there? What kind of person would sign up for a one-way
mission, leaving behind planet Earth and everyone they've ever known
and love... to go in search of an Earth-like planet?
Equipped with a limited-use jet-pack and a mobile robotic arm, the
player must use wits and skill to solve puzzles, unravel the mystery,
and survive the Lifeless Planet
Features:
Explore 20 unique and atmospheric environments on a vast and
treacherous planet.
Follow a mysterious young woman as she guides you past dangerous
terrain and deadly life-forms.
Investigate the startling discovery of an abandoned Russian town.
Experience an exciting and intriguing story through rich graphics and
cinematic cut-scenes.
