Posted: Wed, 4th May 2016 18:28 Post subject: Star Wars [Respawn] - 3rd person action adventure |
|
 |
Quote: | At EA right now, we have multiple studios building a variety of great Star Wars games spanning different genres. We are all united by our teams’ passion for Star Wars™ stories, characters, and adventures.
Today, I’m thrilled to be able to announce that EA and the talented team at Respawn Entertainment have expanded our relationship to include the development of an all-new 3rd person action adventure game set in the Star Wars universe. They join our other great studios – Visceral Games, DICE, Capital Games, BioWare, Motive and more – who are currently working on Star Wars projects. If you’re interested in joining us on this adventure, you can visit our Careers page – we have openings at Visceral and Motive and will be sharing more on these experiences soon.
Over the past few years, I’ve had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with Vince Zampella and his group. Their obsession with making games that feel amazing has helped make Titanfall one of the most successful new game launches of this generation. And now, with a new team led by Stig Asmussen, we get to see what they can do when you combine that great attention to gameplay with the power of Star Wars.
There’s never been a better time to be a Star Wars fan. The passion we’re seeing for Star Wars from gamers – whether they’ve been along for the ride since Star Wars™: Episode IV: A New Hope™, or were introduced to the magic of Star Wars with Star Wars™: The Force Awakens™ – is fueling our development teams and our partners to create unique interactive extensions of this deep, meaningful universe. As a game maker, nothing is more exciting.
Thank you and May the Fourth be with you,
Patrick |

Hope they continue on where 1313 left...the idea I mean because, if i'm not mistaken, it was a different company.

The idea was "cinematic cover shooter". Chances are this will be too as another 3892473897 games are as well!

So is this what is being made from the ashes of 1313 or is that another project?

Years ago I would have been happy to witness such news, but now you read the combo EA+Respawn and you can smell the utter disappointment in the air
I replayed Jedi Knight 2 just a few weeks ago, and it showed me (as if it was needed) that it's technically impossible for nowadays industry to replicate that amazing formula without streamlining it down to hell and back.
Intricate multi-layered levels where you can spend minutes just trying to find a single lever/button, no big-ass markers whatsoever, damn good challenge, mouse-centric controls/combat, no nextgen(tm) gimmicks...with all the pears around it's unthinkable to have all this again.
Something akin to TFU is more likely, only with more shades of Unchartedness, scripted parts and cutscenes for extra cinematic value*
*this is assuming that the game in question won't be online-based

So there's this game, and the other unannounced SW game by Visceral coming?

Correct, and for all we know
There's also Dice with the poor flabby Battlefront franchise, so the only ones left are Bioware.. Wookies and Ewoks be advised, the interracial mating season is near!

Nah, the secret project Bioware Edmonton are working on is supposedly their own new IP, not Star Wars (an IP so bland apparently that one of the devs wore a shirt with it a game conference and nobody even noticed). The only Star Wars thing Bioware is doing is SWTOR. So you are spared/denied your Wookiee and Ewok romances, for now.

Didn't Bioware, DICE and Visceral each start a SW project when EA got the license?

They dont make em like they used to... |
All I need from them is to:
- Take JO and JA
- Port to Frostbite
- Release
That's all. No gameplay changes or anything. Just gimme those games as-is on Frostbite and I'll happily buy them
But that's never going to happen. At best we'll get crap like Force Unleashed.

No, it was just a misinterpretation of the press release at the time. They were basically alluding to SWTOR.
