The Memory of Eldurîm is an open world action RPG. Its closest relatives are game from the Elder Scrolls series. It is, however, distinct from these.
How is The Memory of Eldurîm going to be different from other games in its genre?
Our game is going to be differente in many ways. For a full list read our long “Philosophy of Design” page. But what we are really striving to accomplish is to make a game that is fun in every aspect. Some games make exploring fun, but fighting to level up is a chore; some games have really fun combat, but then the story line is uninspired. We really want to make a game that is fun.
What can you say about the story line?
Story is extremely important to us. In fact, it’s so important that we have dedicated a lot of time to developing it – a LOT of time. We are not just going to present a sequence of events to you but a story that contains meaningful characters and a truly important message that we feel you’ll really enjoy. Read some of our short stories to start getting into it now. Also, we don’t know what the future holds but we need to tell you that our story line is planned out far beyond where this first game will end. We hope that we will be able to continue this story in the future with subsequent games – full blown games – not cheesy DLC. (We don’t like DLC, we want you to pay for the game once and get boatloads of content updates, really, that is what we want to happen.)
What platform will you release on?
Initially The Memory of Eldurîm will be a PC only game for Windows. Depending on what response we get and how things play out, we would certainly consider a release on Xbox One and PS4. If certain Engine restriction are removed we would also be very interested in a Linux and Mac version. That being said, the PC version will always remain uncompromised in regards to control, UI layout, and updates.
But what we are really striving to accomplish is to make a game that is fun in every aspect. Some games make exploring fun, but fighting to level up is a chore; some games have really fun combat, but then the story line is uninspired. We really want to make a game that is fun.
So, old-good Gothic (before 3) but bigger and somehow better. Right.
I fully expected a kickstarter link for another game that will never see the light of day in a finished state. Then I looked on their page and saw that it's pending.
The problem is these guys want to make some grand all-encompassing game and they simply don't have the experience to do so. They are biting off way more than they can chew.
They need to make something small but complete to prove themselves first.
I think it looks like shit, I'd rather watch Gothic 2 in action (my mind might be wearing rose tinted glasses though). A super uber 3D RPG with fascinating story and fun combat, yeah right See you in 2020, when they announce it's been delayed to 2025.
Our game is getting very close to our Early Access release. We are putting a few final touches on to make sure everything is ready for when we go live.
Even if you’ve played the latest version of the demo you’ll still be in for a treat. We’ve added in a lot of new features to the game and many, many changes to the map.
We are excited to announce the release date for The Memory of Eldurîm on steam early access will be this Friday. We hope you enjoy.
We have big plans for The Memory of Eldurîm. We want it to be a game that you can always come back to, to see what's new and what we've been adding. We have been working on putting in a story line. Once our story line has been finished and it is ready, we will release it, and bring our game out of Early Access.
What is the current state of the game?
Right now the game is a fully playable. It takes place on a large island that is fully explorable. There are enemies to fight, loot to find, spells to cast, bosses to defeat, and the very early beginnings of what will be our story line. Most importantly, the game is at a state where we update it often with significant changes that improve the gameplay.
What features are you planning to add to the game?
So many features. We will be adding in stealth combat, different combos for different weapon load outs, a lot more armor and weapons, more enemy types, more story line elements, stealth, faction interaction, more landmasses to explore, crafting, mounts, customizable character, improvements to the UI, and more.
We are going to add these features, and more like them for sure - but is there a feature that the community really wants? We are going to set up a system where users can submit ideas to be implemented in the game and vote on which ideas are the best. We want our community to help us determine how to make the Memory of Eldurîm the best gaming experience possible.
could be fun , will wait as always ith EA for full release
3-16-2014 Patch Notes
-Fixed the torch bug
-Implemented a rudimentary location saving system (via the 'm')
-Implemented many backend code changes
-Implemented a new legendary weapon
-Added several new NPCs with dialogue
-The first quest is now completable
The base character meshes are done, but we received word from CryTek of a new engine version coming very soon which will allow us to have the following:
Linux Support
Physically Based Rendering
Better 32 bit and Windows 8 Support
More Stable Engine Build
Significantly Better Visuals
Due to this news, we have postponed the new character and combat system (though it is being worked on in the background), and will release a very large update in the coming couple months. We have been reworking code in preparation for migration to the new engine.
In the meantime, we will continue to add new items, a new creature, new areas, and new spells.
We have also implemented a much easier way for us to add NPCs, so expect quite a few new NPCs with dialogue and some new quests in the coming patches. We are mostly holding off on making new clothing and armor (so the NPCs will be wearing similar clothing), because of the new character system coming soon, and don't want to waste anymore effort on the old character models.
We are also still working on a UI redesign (which will come as part of the large update), and will include a map system that will allow you to camp (which right now is simply implemented by hitting the button "m" while out of combat).
As we mentioned several months ago we migrated our game to a new and much better version of the CRYENGINE. This allowed us to make the game better in every way.
We have been updating this new version of the game nearly every week for several months and the changes are now sufficient to push out to the main branch.
Some major changes include:
-A complete graphical overhaul of the game.
-New Character models and a playable female.
-Complete rework and improvements to melee combat.
-Large changes to the town and island.
-An entirely new UI system.
-Better support for Windows 7, 8, and 10.
-A more streamlined workflow for us to ensure updates most weeks.
-Increased the land mass of the game by roughly %85. (to be developed in the future)
-General improvements to the game in nearly every aspect.
Doesn't look too shabby, it feels a bit dungeon lords tho... but I actually enjoyed that clusterfuck when it didn't bug out (which was rare)
Their forums were also quite entertaining.
I'll have this one in a bundle or highly discounted some day
Yeah they ran into problems during early access and not earning enough money due to really slow progress and lack of sales as a result, tried to move engine to Lumberyard but if that ever comes to anything it's going to take a long time with only a few core developers remaining last I checked.
Shame really, even Crytek used their game as as showcase at one point but they never really got much work done after releasing a few content updates and it just stalled.
Lack of direction perhaps on what to do with the game and where to take it, happens to bigger "AAA" studios too (Final Fantasy 7's Remake is running it problems recently it seems.) but for smaller indie studios it's probably much more fatal and for a upcoming unreleased game like this well it's all but guaranteed to be dead now I guess.
(It took time but I'm surprised Grim Dawn actually managed to pull through though it never got this bad for them.)
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
