 |
Quote: | Atari Europe has announced a new Neverwinter game, created by Star Trek Online developer Cryptic Studios and due out on PC during the last three months of 2011.
Neverwinter is described as a "co-op role-playing game inspired by R.A. Salvatore's upcoming book trilogy".
"Once a bustling location, Neverwinter has faced a great many disasters in the past hundred years," says the official blurb.
"Rule of the city remains unclear following the unfortunate demise of the last Lord of Neverwinter and factions still battle for dominance after the all-consuming Spellplague took a high toll on the population.
"Even Neverwinter's dead are beginning to rise from their graves and march upon the city they once called home."
The original Neverwinter game, Neverwinter Nights, was a 2002 BioWare created third-person RPG published by Atari.
Fallout: New Vegas developer Obsidian Entertainment created the sequel, Neverwinter Nights 2, which was released in 2006.
Cryptic COO Jack Emmert had this to say: "We're beyond thrilled to develop a brand new version of Neverwinter.
"It's been years since the original became a gaming icon and we're honored to work with such a great franchise.
"We've been working closely with Wizards of the Coast and R.A. Salvatore to create an authentic D&D adventure filled with compelling fiction and exciting gameplay."
Gamers will choose to become one of five classic D&D classes and team up with friends or the AI to form five-person co-op groups.
There's an "extremely user-friendly" content generation system called Forge, too.
Book one in Salvatore's Neverwinter trilogy, Gauntlgrym, will be released on 5th October this year, and "lays the groundwork for the Neverwinter storyline".
Atari's launched a website for the game, from which you can follow using Facebook and Twitter. |

Personal note:
Cryptic? Oh great, there goes that game.
And why co-op? F*cking mmo's and the like for ruining SP games(imo). Sure it might have a SP campaign and a proper(doubtful) story, but interaction with NPC party members...not gonna happen in a co-op game I'm afraid. :/
At least I hope it comes with a toolset...

Shame Obsidian is busy (and Atari doesn't want to wait, pfft) - Mask of the Betrayer was great.

I wonder which D&D ruleset it'll use. 4e? Should be interesting to see those realized in a game.
If they're going with the R.A. Salvatore storyline it shouldn't be too bad. His books are quite entertaining.

Might I remind people that Baldur's Gate could be played in 5 player Co-op as well?
Just saying.
Might wanna take a look a the bright side

Cryptic.... Seriously I can't believe those people are still allowed to make games. They are fucking awful. They will bring shame to the NWN name.

You realise Titan Quest has multiplayer ??

yes the game might be shit (Cryptic).. but complaining that it has multiplayer is fucking retarded.

this definitely isn't going to be the same as the other NWN games. Notice the simple little blurb "...choose to become one of five classic D&D classes ...." Sounds pretty limited to me. More liekly they're trying to hop on the Diablo 3 bandwagon and create something similar and try to get some sales from that wave.
I'm not saying it won't be good. But I'm really not expecting something like NWN1 or 2.

5 classes? Let's see.
Paladin, Cleric, Thief, Sorcerer, Wizard and Fighter is my guess.
Then again the question that poses itself is which ruleset are they gonna use? 4th edition?
I have no idea what classes/races are available in 4e up to now.

I have no clue about the 4th edition ruleset. I do know that my friends that place occationally went back to 3.5 because (from what they say) the 4th edition was so streamlined, something about all classes can basicly learn all skills and it was in a way dumbed down. But I wouldn't know....

Lame. Though I've never been a huge NWN fan anyway. One of the weakest Bioware games, and aside from MoTB NWN2 was also not that interesting.

NWN was basicly just a toolset to create your own world and servers. I played on one for the longest time and I must say it was one of the greatest gamingmoments I had. Singleplayer sucked arse though, not much of singleplayer at all in my opinion. The 2nd fixed that, but insteed it never had the active commuinty around the onlinepart. Mostly because the toolset was buggy and things never really got fixed...

4th ed sucks cock. There's no other way to put it. They tried to modify the rest mechanic, with variable success, but dumbed the game down too much. Now, nwn was my first ever DnD experience back in 2002, and since then, there's no DnD game I have NOT played (made in the past 15 years, perhaps more).
This for me is ass rape. Ass rape indeed.
1. Cryptic
2. Five classes ... FUCK YOU CRYPTIC, GO FUC SOMEONE ELSE'S FUCKING PLAYGROUND. DnD is and always was about choice. Loads of choice: A. in creating your build B. in combat. DnD is the best RPG combat system ever, because combat is completely reactive, not your spell rotation 1-2-3-4 of WoW fame for complete tards. No, DnD was up until this moment for people, who are NOT complete retards. Talk about sellout.
God damn it men!
