Hi.
So like the topic said,it is on 6th december 2017.
I want to put this on here and people are welcome to share your memories on Finland and send some happy birthday shouts.Or do you have some nice story maybe?
Russia countered the claim, saying that it was gifted to them and it should have remained with them as a glorious soviet republic. Finland just used the bolshevik revolution to bail on Russia and become independent. Damn finnish opportunists
Now on a more serious note, happy birthday and thanks for all those nice rock bands and singers. And let's not forget those Formula One champs.

My picture of Mannerheim should prompt you all to look what he was all about.
In my opinion, he embodies Finland. A jack of all trades that had the good ideals that fit the right country.
Beyond the linguistical similitudes, there wasn't much.
I'm not having a go at Finland existence's legitimacy, quite the opposite, I'm just saying that it's much more of a messy affair than it appears.
A pure wilsonnian ideal.Yet righteous.

Mika <3, such a cool character and damned solid driver, he was just pure unadulterated speed. That pass on Schumi at Spa 2000 was so legendary, I remember being in absolute awe when I saw it on TV
Without forgetting all the great Finnish drivers in the WRC, one of my favourite moments:
Russia tried to sell Karelen back to Finland but Finland didn't want it.
All joking aside (even though the statement is true), congrats finns (not sure why though, celebrating your country is like celebrating your car or telly).

After the breakup of the Soviet Union, the Karelian question re-surfaced. According to an article by the Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat in August 2007, the Russian president Boris Yeltsin unofficially offered to sell ceded Karelia to Finland in 1991 but was declined. However, according to many Finnish political leaders and the Russian vice Prime Minister of the time, there were no such offers, only unofficial probing of the idea. Andrei Fyodorov, an advisor of Boris Yeltsin, told the Helsingin Sanomat that he was part of a group that was tasked by the government of Russia in 1991–1992 with calculating the price of returning Karelia to Finland. This price was set at 15 billion US dollars. According to Fyodorov, Finnish president Mauno Koivisto and Finnish foreign minister Paavo Väyrynen were aware of these unofficial discussions.

Karjalan Liitto is an interest group of Karelian evacuees which hopes that Karelia will once again become part of Finland at some point, but does not openly demand it. Some smaller groups, such as ProKarelia, continue to campaign for the peaceful return of Karelia. However, no serious political party has openly supported this goal, and Finnish politicians generally say there is no need for it, citing Finland's peace treaty with Russia. There are some individual politicians who support the return of Karelia, such as MEP Ari Vatanen, and two candidates in the presidential election of 2006: Timo Soini and Arto Lahti. Other candidates have stated that Finland has signed a peace treaty and should not campaign for the return of what are now Russian-developed territories.
