As in title;

My machine is in the sig. Is it worth updating right now for 8700k with new 3.6-4ghz ram?

From what I checked it would be around 1.4k € or so (I'm getting new case and all so my gf can use my old one.)

I prefer manufacturers with long warranties (I just lost SSD and Laptop like 2 months past the warranty Razz ).

Anyway... worth it or are the improvement pretty much unnoticeable? (Purely gaming)

what's your current spec?

I'm running 4790k and see no reason to spend 1k+ eur for 1-5fps increase in games.. Laughing

In the sig; I have same yea.

I'm currently using 1.6ghz ram and there seems to be some people who swear that updating from the older ram to new ~4ghz ram makes a world of a difference.

4790K is good gaming CPU still, OC it a bit, 4,5ghz should be easy with little tweaking. I would not buy intel products anymore, they do shit products for the price and they change socket every week, so you need buy whole platform again when you want to upgrade.

First decide which game(s) you're going to play, then check some benchmarks. At this time, seeing how maaaany tech boundary pushing PC exclusives we have, I'd say NO.

Personally, I'd try to squeeze some more juice out of the 4790K, it's still a good processor and as Breezer said there should be easily room for a pleasant free gain as well, then it's up to you (and your specific needs).

PC gaming these days is definitely stalling when it comes to pure technology (the proof of this is me still surviving well with the i5 2500k xD), the main causes for performance problems in games are laziness and bad porting jobs and those are often universal issues that exist no matter the system involved. Regarding the games I play, I often play cpu dependent games (paradox's games etc.)

But of course, 'better' cpu does not necessarily mean that the games get any faster, as they might be slowed down by bad coding.

I have an i5 4570 and a 1080. Do you guys think I should upgrade soon? Been thinking an i5 8600k or possibly the Ryzen refresh.

Already have a Fractal Define C case and have an EVGA Supernova G3 power supply coming.

You will definately notice an improvement with the CPU change.

4 cores without HT is big bottleneck these days, in your case new CPU would definately do wonders (i would go for ryzen refresh, the socket will last long and is future proof).

Nah, wait another year or so. Unless you're having trouble with that CPU already
