|
 |
Hey people.
I've been running windows 7 ultimate without any problems, but thought it was time to upgrade to windows 10.
Installed windows 10 from a boot dvd with on a newly partioned and formatted SSD.
already after installing and preconfiguring the OS I ran into problems.
While typing in the usual stuff,"usename creation" and such... the screen suddenly turned black and I could not get the picture back. Did a hard reboot and I could continue into the OS.
It has happened a couple of times since then that the screen turned black.
Also while setting up the OS I have had numerous times semi freezes, meaning all windows stop responding to me pressing buttons. If its chrome it says "waiting for cache" and won't open any web pages. Also the windows buttons does pop up when I press it but none of the buttons do anything.
This is strange, windows 7 worked perfectly but windows 10 is giving me quite a headache.
Do any of you have any clues as to why this is happening?
I have updated my gfx drivers, used windows update until it could find anything else, but havent gotten the system stable yet.
Hardware: Ryzen 3700x, B450 MSI Gaming Pro carbon AC, GTX1080, 32 GB 3200 Mhz cas 14, 256 EVO SSD, 1 TB EVO SSD and 4 TB HDD.

first: eventvwr.msc is your friend
then check whether there are any driver problems:devmgmt.msc

The way is forward.. NOT backward. Win7 is dying and is NOT going to be supported for very long so your mileage is soon coming to an end. Regrettably, there is only Win10 and the new Redstone updates coming. Yer living in the past, regrettably, that Win7 will last much like your borrowed time back in the WinME and WinXP days.

hmmm... I think I fixed it, need the machine to run a while longer though to be sure.
I had my SSD(primary SSD with the OS on it) in a "wrong" sata port. while troubleshooting I found a webpage mentioning having your SSD plugged in the marvell sata controller(6 gb SATA) could cause instability issues with the ssd.
While doing this I ran Samsung magician and it couldn't recognize my SSD(840 EVO). Turned off my machine and checked if SSD was plugged into a different colored plug than the rest of my HDD's, it was.
After doing this, samsung magician found my SSD and updated its firmware.
Of course now my SSD max transfer speed has been halved. I'm wondering if updating its firmware fixed the issue and changing the sata port back is worth it.
Thanks for the help, appriciate it.
EDIT: my motherboard is an ASrock Z77 extreme 3, did check the specs but found no mentioning of a marvell sata port..

Well... Unless you actually unplugged and then plugged back the SSD's then you didn't have it on a wrong port. You had something that was (supposedly) working just fine with win7 but that stopped working mysteriously after the "upgrade" to win10
