Bracknell, UK, 21st July, 2016 – Kalypso Media and Games Farm are proud and excited to present Vikings – Wolves of Migard, a bold new IP that will pit Action RPG fanatics against the most legendary of all mythological conflicts: Ragnarok.
Legend has it, that when the coldest winter descends, the Jotan will return to take their vengeance against the Gods of Asgard. The world is on the road to perdition and the fate of Midgard hangs in the balance. But when the Fire and Frost Giants begin to merge their armies, they encounter the clan of the Ulfung – the Wolves of Midgard. Bloody, but unbowed following the destruction of their village, this notorious band of ostracized Viking warriors are determined to seize their destiny and save the world. As clan chief, you must save Midgard from complete annihilation, and spearhead the charge to vanquish the fiendish creatures of the Fimbulwinter.
Launching on PlayStation®4, Xbox One, Windows PC, Mac and Linux in early 2017, Vikings – Wolves of Midgard will transport you to the Shores of Midgard, a world based upon the mythology and history of the Vikings. Battle the fearsome Jotan, hordes of terrifying undead monstrosities and other myriad beasts of Ragnarok, either on your own or by teaming up with a friend via the online co-op multiplayer mode. Master mighty weapons, including sword and shield, two-handed hammers, dual-wielded axes and swift bows. Earn blood in battle to offer in tribute to the Gods in order to acquire and enhance devastating Spell Powers and other special unlockables. As well as the regular story mode (and New Game+), players can also test their mettle in the ‘Trials of the Gods’ – a special challenge mode that rewards the best warriors with special equipment and runes.
Features of Vikings – Wolves of Midgard:
Fantasy Meets Nordic Mythology: Travel the realms of earthly Midgard, freezing Niflheim and boiling Balheim, either as a fierce Viking warrior or merciless shieldmaiden.
The Deadly Fimbulwinter: Withstand the deathly colds and protect yourself from exposure to nature’s wrath in order to survive.
Tribute to the Gods: Collect blood from fallen enemies and sacrifice it at the altar to gain gifts from the Gods to enhance your powers.
Berserker Rage: Let your anger take hold by activating Rage Mode to overwhelm your enemies in bloodthirsty combat.
The art of combat: Perfect your skills with each weapon to unlock their true potential, including swords, bows and spell-powered canes.
The Power of the Gods: Make the abilities of the Gods your own by equipping power-infused amulets, like the Talismans of Thor or Loki. Put your new skills to the test by competing in the Trials of the Gods to earn further rewards.
Teamwork: Team up with a friend and journey to the Shores of Midgard together in an epic two player online co-op mode. Choose between four difficulty levels to suit your skills and talents. Do you dare attempt the unrelenting hardcore mode?
The Clan of Wolves: Restore and rebuild your village and lead your clan to glory. Upgrade buildings such as weaponsmith, armourer, runesmith, and mead hall to unlock more content and better equipment.
Legendary Weapons: Gather the scattered fragments of mythical weapons and armors to take on the most fearsome creatures of the realms.
A Class of its Own: Become even more powerful in the next life by attempting New Game+, and push your Viking warrior or shieldmaiden to their limit.
Destructible Environments: Utilize your surroundings by burying your foes under falling rocks or pushing them off high cliffs.
Vikings – Wolves of Midgard will be available in early 2017 on PlayStation®4, Xbox One, Windows PC, Mac and Linux. Steam users will be available to pre-purchase Vikings – Wolves of Midgard at a 15% discount shortly, and will secure an exclusive pack containing an additional outfit for both male and female warriors, consisting of an additional tattoo, hairstyle and clan symbol, as well as a new beard style for male characters and tribal jewellery for female characters.
So you hammered him/it right in the dick because "It wasn't hard enough."
(Also is that a sword or a shield, it's too open to be a effective shield but there's no hilt on it either. )
(EDIT: Nope it's just be big dude's weapon as it clipped through the player as it's dropped on death.)

Vikings is a notably stripped-back action-RPG. There are no loot drops, your character doesn’t level up, and you have access to just a handful of abilities. The level design is distinctly linear: while you are free to backtrack and meander around as much as you please, the minimap makes it clear you’re exploring a network of corridors as opposed to an open world.

Dev's reaction to that:

Preview version was quite an early development version so some features were not completely working or were not fully functional. There is level up, skill system was rather simple for the presentation purposes and there was reduced loot as there were only two levels present. It is linear though but hopefully we will be able to compensate linearity with other features and fun

Ah nice.
I don't have such a big problem with linearity in this kind of game. But at least loot system and level/skill system has to be good then.
I can't imagine playing this game just for the story, even if it would be so good, if the gameplay is boring.
@VonMisk
Yep looks very similar.
The setting of course, but only the HUD a bit and the rather zoomed in camera.

Loki varied things a bit though by letting you kill off some of the Aztec mythology in addition to Norse and also Greek and Egyptian.
Somewhat buggy and the engine was fairly crude (NetImmerse modified.) but I enjoyed it although I watched the other character endings via videos along with the full "Loki" ending itself since well the first playthrough has you put down this Egyptian deity and then your local patron god basically screws you over horribly and then in the second playthrough well I forgot exactly how that turned out but in the third and final one you basically kill off the entire collection of divine beings and finally encounters Loki and can either agree with him about basically ending the world or what it was or you can disagree and kill the fucking kid.
(Yeah the game made him look like a little brat. )
Just saw that. Looks meh.
Looks like the same very streamlimed ARPG that Dungeon Siege 3 was.
I will just stick to Path of Exile for example, if i want to play a good ARPG.
controller designed shit. It seems this is another PC invented genre in gaming that will NEED to be in consoles from now on. You cant put a proper PC game on steam these days cause the ps360 refugees that started on PC in the last 2 years are having a fit in the forums, demanding controller support in any game. They keep repeating how the devs are losing sales, how its 2016, how they need to be on the couch, so more and more devs are almost forced to serve the derp needs

Firstly, we’re excited to announce that the wait is almost over as Vikings — Wolves of Midgard will launch March 28 !

Even the environment is against you — freezing cold, poisonous fog, and scorching heat are just some of the hazards that can cause damage, slow your movements, and other detrimental effects. We call this the Exposure system, and to combat it you’ll need to find safe zones to balance out your vitals — such as campfires when exploring colder climes.!
this sounds interesting but who knows :-/
Its seems to be the usual diablo-ish rpg with some interesting idea like the village , destruction or enviromental hazard ... but who knows
.. the further from D3 the better ... couldnt get into that game :-/
Yeah, it might end up being acceptable after all, despite the simplified look/feel and gamepad shenanigans. The destructible environments + environmental effects combo sounds neat on paper. I'm going to preorder an isodemo
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
