Unworthy is a hardcore combat-focused metroidvania without jumping. Explore a grim universe, discover new weapons and abilities, and defeat the vile creatures that plague the land.
Black and White sucks, I can live with pixelated but why do people keep releasing black and white platformers.
yeah, I get the pixel art because there's a history to that particular art and also a connection (if you were a gamer in the 80-90's).
Black and white on the other hand... it can be nice for some photos and some beautifully filmed movies can sometimes look better in black and white. But here it makes no sense, it's not an "artsy" game at all, pixel art is rather the opposite side of that.
..but it doesn't add any atmosphere really since there's no connection and no history of b&w pixel art games.. pixel art has a history of being colorful. But sure, it's easier.
I've been playing this game for quite some time and I think it's pretty good if you can bear with pixelated B&W graphics.
The character development is somewhat simplistic.
You have 4 stats - health, stamina, damage, armour. When you level you increase them automatically by a certain fixed amount. There are 9 passive abilities you can upgrade + 2 secret passives you can get if you do something specific. Each ability can be upgraded 5 times. You get 1 ability point for defeating a boss and 1 from eating a heart (15+ total per NG, listen to the sound of heartbeats, usually u need to break something or teleport through a fake wall)
- % chance to deal massive melee damage
- increase base melee damage
- return X damage to an attacker
- increase base stamina
- increase health potions healing
- increase base armour
- increase stamina reg by % at full HP
- increase max HP
- % chance to refill health potion when killing enemies
+ 2 secret ones. (one from secret areas, another from a boss)
You can equip certain items on your quick slots. Healing, darts, some others.
Among items, you can find in the world or that get dropped by enemies are healing food, + XP, stamina regen, + Sin (money), refresh ability CD, respec(passives ) etc
If you die you lose only your Sin (money), your XP stays the same.
There are Relics you can find, receive as a quest reward or from a boss. One of them, for instance, allows you to fast travel to visited bonfires.
You can equip only 2 weapons.
Some you can buy, some you get from bosses. Each weapon has a skill that can be used several times then it recharges pretty fast. You can disable this skill which can be useful when using, say, teleportation bow.
- sword & shield (fast attacks, jumping attack, a passive shield skill that protects you from one hit then gets recharged)
- hammer (slow but strong attacks, can be used to break into the secret areas, sends flame over the ground)
- halberd (moderately fast, has a great reach, spinning attacks )
- double bows (don't have it)
- teleportation bow (you can use it as a normal one too switching off it's ability)
- soulflame gauntlet (it's essentially a mage's weapon, it does fire damage, sets enemies on fire but not for long, it has a long reach and you can summon a flying flame sphere that attacks enemies 3 times before disappearing). You get it pretty late though.
There are some secrets and puzzles (it seems some of them affect the endings) and apparently, you can get different endings or something.
One boss is skippable. Unfortunately, you might skip him without knowing it and this way you won't get the double bow.
You meet some NPCs here and there who say cryptic stuff like in DS. Some of them are vendors.
